There are lots of arguments for the original being cannon and I’m not trying to dismiss them.

But I’m talking super clearly cannon, like they brush their teeth and climb into bed together, and every friday after work Spock goes out for drinks with Uhura to complain about Kirk, and the bridge crew knows an uncomfortable amount about their sex lives.
