Nuuk
Today I visited Greenland's capital and largest city, Nuuk. Although there is no streetview in Nuuk, Google has some amazing photos of the town. Nuuk has a very distinct and, for the most part, very eye-pleasing housing style.
Nuuk sits on one of thousands of peninsulas in the area. Here is a shot of one of the main residential areas, taken from the sea. Barren, treeless mountains rise up behind the colourfully painted houses. Next, I took a look at one of Nuuk's few modern buildings; the Kutaq Greenland cultural centre. A beautiful building, its long front made up of slowly curving sheets of wood. Next I looked at Nuuk's surrounding area, and landed here, at a nearby lake. The scraggly, mossy shore of the smaller, closer lake rises steeply up on the right. in the distance, the larger lake opens up, part of the far shore barely appearing on the misty horizon.
Next, I found another view of the city from a nearby mountain, Lille Marlene. In the first harbour towards the city are a few islands and two motorboats rushing by. Past that peninsula is Nuuk's Harbour. Some larger are docked there, mostly cargo. Past them is the city.
Here's another gorgeous shot of the surrounding landscape.
To be honest, before now I never really knew there were more than a few buildings in Greenland, but Nuuk really looks like a beautiful place, and the same to its surrounding area.
