Tumblr Kaiju Redesign Challenge - Day 1

Godzilla - King of the Monsters

Breached precisely at the exact moment a nuclear bomb was dropped on its home. Its deformation makes it virtually impossible to decipher its species. The creature’s head absorbed most of the impact at the cost of stability and structural integrity. Pieces of rotted skin are constantly falling off its head, and its jaw is mostly bone showing. Needle-like teeth (baleen?) line its maw and its pug-like nose is so flattened that it seems impossible for the creature to smell anything. Its arms have withered away, they are useless hunks of flesh that hang limply at its sides. The spines on its shoulders and outer back area are more for show than anything. Some theorize their purpose is for defense or to gain speed in the water. Countless sensitive skin pores line its back and tail. These glow as it fires its deadly ray, which is a crimson blood-red color. Its feet are cracking and straining to keep its dead weight aloft out of the water. 

Godzilla’s design was inspired primarily by his most recent incarnation (at the time of this writing, that would be 2016 or Shin Godzilla) as well as initial concept art for the 1954 film that had the creature’s head resembling a mushroom cloud. I really wanted to make Godzilla look like a victim of a horrific weapons test. He still retains his dinosaur-shape but his physiology is unlike any prehistoric reptile we know.
