Trying to decide whether I want to make her human guises illusory or flesh and bone... would it make sense to do both?

Like here's my thinking right. On one hand, a little flash of tooth and claw every time she gets excited or emotional about anything. Was that a trick of the light or did her eyes change? That kind of uncanniness is fun and fits.

On the other hand, I love when she's body horroring it up, hunched over in the corner like an animal because her fangs and claws are growing through the human mask she's tried so hard to contain (think dem.ons 1985 minus the green goo if anyone's seen the movie); went over her limits and now she can't control her physical form, hoofs replacing feet, horns spiraling up; there's blood on her mouth, hands, hair, legs. Trickling down her forehead, smudged along her temples and cheeks, her eyes red and all she can say is, "I'm sorry."

Which, somehow, I feel as though it's even more painful for her because she's doing it outside of Hell with an unwilling watcher. Like don't look at her while she's doing this, don't let it change your perception of her. Not only does she NOT want a human present while she's like this, it's a vulnerable position for her to be in lacking control of her powers, she's terrified of scaring them away; she also can't do anything about it because she used up all her powers. And it's the unknowing that comes from the change yknow? How will they react? I think it'd make her more sensitive and hyper aware than she usually is, her physical pain tolerance may be high but her emotional pain tolerance isn't.

It was definitely partly me being very enraptured by the epilogue of RH and wanting to explore an AU of that! I actually wrote a ton of side stuff/AU stuff for RH because the story had gnawed my brain so hard for so long.

I don't like to judge things based on what they didn't do, and I try to judge them based on what they did (or, in some cases, what was omitted). BNHA wasn't interested in the same aspects about its premise that I was interested in. BNHA is a kid's shounen and veers from 'disinterested in asking any questions' to 'raising some pretty worrying questions, actually'. Which is normal, and basically expected. It's a very competent and overall well-done show. But when I was watching it, I felt like it was raising some concepts that it completely failed to completely interrogate, and it wasn't interested in following through in its allegories. You're presented the world of BNHA and you assume that it's about a TON of things, because that seems to be what the story is talking about, but it ends up veering away from those questions completely. It leaves you kind of unsatisfied.

IF PERHAPS YOU WERE CRAZY AND DECIDED TO DELVE INTO EVERY ONE OF THOSE QUESTIONS THROUGH THE LENS OF YOUR STUPID AU THAT'S BEEN EATING YOUR BRAIN -

The FE3H cast are a bunch of child soldiers from hideously exploitative and cruel families upholding and profiting from corrupt and eugenicist institutions. This could also be the cast members of BNHA, if the author wasn't a fucking coward. I think sticking the cast members of FE3H, whose premise is that they are from That Context, in BNHA, makes it really easy to draw parallels that are so strong that you can say so much about BNHA. Just by sticking Dorothea in there. That story could have been about Dorothea. She was a middle school jpop idol. It fucking writes itself. For every single solitary character it fucking writes itself. Abyss being Kamino Ward it fucking writes itself. And it brings out a ton of untapped potential from all sides. It's so fucking stupid. I'm the only human being who knows me. Me and my five guys.

I do think my favorite aspect of the fusion was Dimitri and Edelgard as the new League of Villains. It's so insane. It is objectively such an insane choice. But I really love it, because Dimitri and Edelgard are the 'successes' of the Hero Industry - they're the winners, they're the perfect heroes, they're everything that their society made them to be. They are the result of their society - one that is so corrupt and abusive towards children it drove them into serial killing and terrorism. They are the Hero System that they're trying to take down. They are the exact opposite of the BNHA League of Villains (societal rejects who are ostracized because of discrimination and the hero system and who want to tear it down as a result), except they are exactly the conceit of the League of Villains. All For One assembled the LOV to take down One For All and destroy the Symbol of Peace. Edelgard & Dimitri assembled because they are the new Symbols, they are what happens when society functions exactly as it's supposed to, and because they love One For All so much that it destroyed them.

And beneath all of THAT. Dimitri is a sixteen year old who is being abused on every level, crying and begging for somebody to save him. You see the moment in the story where he gives up hope - where he realizes that his only family is too damaged to save him too. Byleth believed in saving souls, in giving the little rescues, in helping whoever needs to be helped. That was the hero that Dimitri had needed - and at the end of the story Khalid is left struggling to take Byleth's role, and to do what Byleth could never do.

It was weird making Dimitri an evil serial killer when I'm normally extremely careful to portray him humanely. Even when I wrote the GD route Dimitri stayed a good person. It was definitely weird writing him being horrible. But it was also super fun. This is the 22nd century they have medication for his schizoaffective bipolar he could be perfectly healthy and happy if they weren't withholding medical care from him it's EVILLL.
