Omg glad that pyrex explosion didn't end up worse! (Also I've totally done that but with a metal muffin tin, that I also had to trash)
It really could have been worse. The most frustrating part was that literally 2 minutes before it happens I said to my boyfriend, “Are you sure you want to use pyrex? I’ve seen it explode twice.” and he said, “That’s never happened to me, I trust it.” and then set it on a stovetop we thought was cool and....boom.
The first time I saw this happen was high school chemistry. A classmate, in after-school lab (a weird thing we had), set pyrex on a hot dish. It was near winter break and the lab was on how to make candy canes so a true baking dish didn’t seem out of place. It exploded, a good 5 ft radius, covered in melted sugar. The second time was at a friends house. Her parents were cooking. It exploded in the oven. It wasn’t on direct heat so I’m not sure why. Maybe the wire rack was too hot? Maybe it had a pre-existing flaw? I really don’t know.
This was the third time.
I hoped if I switched to all metal I’d be safe but....how’d you explode a metal muffin tin?!?!
