Sopapillas are a delightful Latin American treat that resembles quick donuts. These crispy, golden pillows of fried dough are simple to make and perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth. Serve them warm and dusted with powdered sugar for a delicious treat.
Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour. 2 tsp baking powder. 1/2 tsp salt. 1 tbsp sugar. 2 tbsp vegetable oil. 3/4 cup warm water. Oil for frying. Powdered sugar for dusting.
Instructions: Combine the sugar, baking powder, salt, and all-purpose flour in a bowl. Stir well after adding the vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. When a smooth dough forms, gradually add warm water to the mixture and continue to knead. For fifteen minutes, cover and let it rest. Heat the oil in a deep pan to 350 degrees Fahrenheit 175 degrees Celsius. Roll out each of the small portions of dough to form a thin square or circle. To ensure even cooking, flip the dough once while it fries in the hot oil until it turns golden brown. It ought to take two to three minutes on each side. To get rid of extra oil, take the donuts out of the oil and drain them on paper towels. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top of the warm donuts. Enjoy and serve right away!
