Initially, Hilda gave him a quizzical look. Did he really dare to even speak of something that could challenge her abilities? If she had to say so herself, she was rather skilled with tools of all kinds. Her sometimes tagging along with Berwald in the workshop only helped her hone her skills-- or at least with the more heavy machinery... What on earth could a lock have against her? “We’ll see about that.”
His next offer took her by surprise. When she’d asked about him to Matthias, he warned her to just generally veer away from him, because he could be so standoffish and she could be painfully timid. Hell, Matthias was surprised she even mentioned Basch, because it implied they’d interacted before. But of course it was her curiosity that had gotten the better of her-- and here they were, and he was mentioning chocolate... rather calmly. Almost calm enough to make her suspicious! However, she gave a reluctant nod. “Chocolate is something I could accept...” she squinted her eyes, again flashing him a quizzical look. “Why do you mention that? I thought all you did was crawl around for cheese.” She was feeling a little bit playful and decided to test him. He didn’t seem that bad, after all.
