With his mother’s arm looped around his elbow and a bag of products in his other hand, Shino has been obediently following where Kin steered him for most of the afternoon. “Perhaps we should stop for dinner soon, Mother.”

On her best days, Kurenai could strike fear with a look. On her worst, even with Mirai babbling at her hip, she struck fear with her aura. Today was one of those days. She was tired, and her daughter was to thank for that. Balancing the toddler on the dip in her waist, the jounin teetered towards the familiar face. Once, Kurenai had held authority over one from this clan. Now, she sought guidance for herself.
“ It’s been a while, " And, truth be told, Kurenai couldn’t remember how long. “ I was hoping I could trouble you for a-- Mirai, please don't pull my hair. ”

BLOODBORNE AU --- @goldenscribe, @fulgadrome.
Cast: Aburame Kintsugi, Aburame Shibi, Aburame Khünbish, Aburame Fumio, Nara Shikaku, Nara Morimaru, Inuzuka Tsume, Yukinohana Yoshino.
Yharnam is a festering wound. Unknowingly encouraged by the practice of Blood Ministration, the beast plague is rampant, spreading through the populace like fire through kindling. Men and women, yet untouched by the scourge, follow in the footsteps of the First Hunter by taking up arms in defense of their city. At night, they rove the streets, seeking prey. Seeking blood. The hunters, divided by infighting among various factions, barely suppress the onslaught. Only pockets of organized resistance remain.
One such hunter, a natural philosopher hailing from the east, has taken up residence in a crumbling mansion. From what was once one of the wealthiest districts of Yharnam, she conducts her increasingly esoteric experiments, all in the spirit of discovery and healing. She believes, with a surety that borders on faith, that she will be the one to find the answers to Yharnam’s dilemma. In the belly of her laboratory, chemicals bubble. Samples glisten. Bodies are heaped upon the table, waiting their turn for necropsy. Though she has said much the same in the past, she is certain she is close to a breakthrough. Soon. Soon.

Content and almost a little excited, Mikoto rinsed and cut cabbage in the kitchen, adding it to the other chopped up vegetables in the bowl.
Itachi was upstairs, studying, diligent as always. He was most likely going to graduate from the academy this year if things were to continue as they had. It was several years earlier than she wished. But with a new war going around... it would not be any different from the time Fugaku and her had been children, anyone capable enough would be ushered out early.
She knew Fugaku did his best to prepare Itachi for what was to come before he would be thrown in head first, but it still worried her. He was so quiet, attentive and smart, he had an exceptional amount of control over his emotions by now. But she was still his mother and she knew that her oldest was quite a delicate and caring person. He tried to hide it, more and more with every day, but despite his efforts, it was most easy to see with Sasuke, her little happy boy. Itachi adored him just as much as the little one was adoring his older brother.
Little smartypants sunshine was currently in the living room, and thankfully she could still hear him - lesson number 1: hearing a toddler is a good thing, not hearing a toddler for longer than two minutes is bad, very bad.
Sasuke was a bundle of joy, however that did not make him easy either. That bundle of joy was fast as hell and extremely curious when they were home alone. Mikoto had stopped counting the times when he was suddenly gone and the rest of the family started a frantic search only to find him where she could have sworn they had looked before - several times so. Or in places no one had an explanation for how a person that short could even get there. It wasn’t helping that he’d been walking, wobbly, but without help before he even turned one.
Sasuke had never been as quiet as Itachi, sitting with his toys for hours on end, proceding to do things he shouldn’t be doing yet for his age. However, if Sasuke decided to sit down and deem the toys worthy of his attention... or even when he ignored them in favor of watching (interrupting) her or... for that matter, Itachi, she was starting to recognise that his play had method and wasn’t as random as one would expect either.
So if that wasn’t just her pride as a mother talking, she might soon have two slightly overintelligent boys at her hands. Funny how life managed to surprise you sometimes.
But, more important at the moment was the generous amount of food she was working with. It had been a while since they last had any visitors from outside the clan and she wasn’t going to be stingy on anything.
Aburame Kintsugi, a woman Fugaku knew a little better than she did, but every time they had met in the past, Mikoto felt rather comfortable with her. She had never really had much of a problem with bugs, in fact one of her genin teammates had been Kin’s husband. And the Aburame in general were a mostly quiet, but pleasant folk in her eyes. And amongst any clan in Konoha, who was going to judge the other, they just had their specialties, whether it be shadows, dogs, bugs or eyes that could see more than other’s.
She was also looking forward to meeting little Shino, who was the same age as Sasuke. It would be nice to see her child play with someone that was not his immediate family member. It would do him good.
Dumping the last of the cabbage in the bowl, she wiped her hands on her apron and checked over all the preparations. Dinner was ready to be cooked, the ingredients for the cookies they were planning to bake after had been set out as well. The wine was still in the cellar, but it would taste better if it kept the temperature that was maintained down there until opened. Sasuke was still making noise in the living room and... the table had been set, too. Well, she was ready for her guests.

Wiping his mouth with his sleeve, Naruto smiles at his empty bowl. He dominated his third bowl. Now his tummy is full. Hopefully it’s enough that he can avoid breakfast tomorrow.
Fishing out his frog wallet, he can’t help but grin at it. He saw one of the merchant ladies sellin’ it a few days ago. After passing it five times, he couldn’t go far in fear someone would buy, she called him over. She told him she give it to him at discount! Naruto didn’t question, hell he didn’t even think. He gave her the price she asked for and greedily took the frog purse home.
Now it’s his and can’t help but feel his chest swell in pride. This makes him feel like an adult! One that can do big boy stuff!
Fishing out the necessary money, he hands it to the owner’s daughter Ayame. A small smile rests on her lips as she tells him his meal has been taken care of. Naruto follows her slender finger and blinks at the woman sitting a few stools away.
He tilts his head and tries to place her in his memory. There is a small tug in his head, but he can’t grasp it to see what it is. Unsure how she paid for him, the blond slips off his stool and walks up to her.
Tugging her sleeve, he hands her his money. Since she paid for it, that means he has to pay her? Right?
“For my meal,” he says, “since Ayame-chan said you took care of it!”

❝ I thought I smelled a roach. You’re that Shibi’s wench, aren’t ya? You smell of him. ❞ The fact that she was wandering so far from the village seemingly alone made her an easy target, and he would take everything she had. The corner of his lips tugged into a smirk of sorts. ❝ Kinda ‘shame he’s not here to protect ya. ❞
