alright so last month we got a little orange furred kitten from the humane society. he gets along with the big orange cat just fine, and like the other two cats, he associates the sound of tiny objects shaking in a container with treats.
so a few nights ago, my kitten was playing around and he knocked over our big thing of goldfish that we have for some reason. and because it’s a bunch of little objects shaking in a container, he bats it around on the floor trying to get it open. so i open it up to see how he’d react to the fact that inside the container were not treats. he sniffs around and stares inside the opening. i pull out an individual goldfish and he looks absolutely amazed, and then proceeds to paw out another goldfish and eat it. i panicked a little because i didn’t know if goldfish were alright for a cat to eat, so when he pawed out another one, i grabbed it and tossed it back into the container. he paws out another one, i toss it back. yet another one, i toss it back again. we go at this for a while, and lemme tell you, i’ve never seen immense frustration in a tiny kitten’s eyes before. eventually i realized i was just being mean and i let him have a goldfish, then quickly set the carton on the counter.
