Harvest Reaping: For some headcanons about our muses. 

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but Jasmine has recurring nightmares about the night of her attack, including a variant where Adare is the one trying to kill her. 

The first time baby Jasmine saw a pool after she learned to walk, she immediately jumped in, sank straight to the bottom and sat there. Adare had to jump in with all his clothes on to fish her out. 

Jasmine really likes gold makeup accents (as seen in my sidebar pic) and she 100% gets this from Adare

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY AU (click the dates for song selections)

Adare might be a god from outer space, laid low by the love of a mortal woman. He might just be an extremely powerful alien traveling the galaxy in search of cheap thrills. Either way, in 1959 Adare the Starchild meets the human Marian Harris, and nothing is ever the same again. Their twins are born in 1962, and Adare takes his children to the roof of their apartment building at night, pointing out planets and constellations he’s visited. But Marian dies in 1965, and Adare, grieving, returns to the only thing he knew before meeting her--conquering galaxies and crushing those who stand in his way. 

Jasmine and Marigold grow up on a distant planet, with only their father’s collection of records from the 50s and 60s to remind them of Earth. Marigold trains hard to become the fiercest warrior in the galaxy, hoping one day to gain her estranged father’s approval. Jasmine, however, loses much of her human body in an attack by space pirates and is now a famed half-cyborg mercenary. Can they ever be a family again?

“Adare? Is....the worst. Absolutely the fucking worst. I swear to Danu, he must wake up most days and just think like, ‘How can I make Lacha’s life miserable?’ That sounds like I’m being egotistical or something but honestly. He’s 70 years older than me and never let’s me forget it, and yet he acts like a fucking child. And he’s the quintessential Seelie, you know, which means he’s fucking impossible to talk to. It’s all ambiguities and half-truths and everything is a trap within an enigma within a fucking... like... Whatever, he gives me a migraine.

But he also... I mean. He thinks I don’t remember where it came from, but I have this necklace. He gave it to me, when he came to pay respects for my mother. And he was... I mean, I was only twelve at the time, but he was kind to me. And I remember that. He was kind to a confused, hurt, grieving twelve-year-old and I remember that.”

They were each other’s first kiss. It was a sweet little peck, innocent and warm. And her cheeks had glowed and her heart pounded so hard she thought her ribs might crack. After Adare had left, Garnet giggled until she was breathless and stooped to pick a flower, plucked off it’s petals and let out a cry of delight when the last petal she pulled promised he likes you.

It was Garnet’s mother that first suggested the idea of the two getting married. She had been sliding a brush through her daughter’s hair and casually asked how Garnet felt about him because you know, he would be king and a king that needed a queen.  Garnet’s eyes had widened and a smile pulled at her lips. From that day on she had wanted it with all her heart. She later learned her mother had talked with Oberon at the idea.

Garnet cried after Adare and Aiteann’s wedding. She held herself all day but as soon as it wouldn’t be noticeable that she was gone, she slipped away and balled. It was unbelievably difficult to look at Aiteann in the eye, tell her honestly that was beautiful, knowing what lies Aiteann had told to Adare.

When Aiteann and Adare announced they were divorcing, Garnet’s first thoughts weren’t ones of ambition but of concern for her friend. All that mattered was making sure he was okay. She made it her personal mission to cheer him up and ease the wounds left after the Sacrifices ( not that she succeeded ).

Together, they are powerful. He has the respect of his subjects while she has their love. It’s a good combination, a strong one. She adores being Queen Consort and although she always made an effort to be regal, she’s even more so now. She’s still just as sweet with him, not the sharpness he needs but she just can’t bring herself to treat him that way. Despite that, and the slight weight on her heart because of what she’s done to get here, they are strong together. She adjusts his tie and smooths the sleeves of his suit, never noticing ( or pretending that she doesn’t ) that his eyes look beyond her, picturing someone else. If they are lucky and by some miracle, there are children. Beautiful heirs that offer a promise of a thriving future.

Maybe in another life they would be even better and her love would be returned. Maybe if she had a bite to her words. Maybe if Marian hadn’t bled out on that cold, New York night.

Maybe.

Garnet has always struggled to separate her feelings for the Seelie Court and Adare. Why would she need to? Over the years, one has bled into the other and she truly, genuinely loves Adare ( or at least she thinks she does and that’s enough ). It’s been really hard watching him get married to someone else, when she feels she was born to be his queen. Even with Aiteann by his side, Garnet still cared deeply for him, advising for him and always trying to smother the hope that her day would come. 

Having Zinnia kill Marian was one of the few times the line between the man and the kingdom didn’t blur for Garnet. Personal feelings of jealousy aside, Garnet believed having Marian murdered was the only thing that would save the Court and that it was her own personal duty. There was no way the king could spend decades with a human while the Court went without an heir. There was a while when Garnet was angry at Adare for being so foolish but with time that melted away, leaving only love remaining.

Why in Danu’s name did they all have to go back?

An Fidchell was something Jasmine tolerated every year because she had to, and tried to forget about as soon as possible. If the fire and the ensuing mayhem had been intended as a protest of the event, Jasmine thought, unfortunately it had only served to prolong the brutality. It could have all been over last month, but now she had to return and watch the vultures come to cackle over the deaths and collect their loot. 

When Adare had announced his end of the bet, Jasmine had faced the possibility that her mother’s identity would be revealed. It was cold comfort, but what injury or indignity could the Courts subject her to that she had not already weathered? Jasmine had reminded herself that mother was untouchable now, accountable only to her human gods. These fey could not hurt her anymore. 

Still, Jasmine was relieved that the Seelie had won. She could keep her mother’s name out of the mouths of the crowds of sneering fey, could protect it like a treasure that could not be surrendered to an uncaring world. Names, she had learned from birth, had power. 

Not that she cared a whit for the prize, the knowledge of who the Unseelie Princess’ father was. What use was it to her, especially once it was known to all? A Seelie victory was not a victory for Jasmine or her sister, just a way to keep things from getting worse. Nonetheless, she’d congratulate her father on it. It’s customary, she thought as she approached Adare and waited to be received. And besides, it’ll remind him who I am.

Gingerbread Kings | Hazel & Adare

Never before had Hazel felt so nervous about delivering her baked goods to someone. Of course, she’d never filled a specific request for royalty before, so that made sense. She’d selected only the best of her little gingerbread kings, frosted to various degrees because she realized too late that King Adare hadn’t actually answered her frosting question. All of them had a crown made out of actual, edible gold leaf. Her favorite had the most frosting - she’d used the female cookie cutter shape and trimmed down the skirt to be less full so it could be made into a cloak. She’d then decorated the little king with red and white frosting to give it the look of a old fashioned royal fur trimmed cloak. She’d tried to make a scepter in his hand, but it had broken and so she’d trimmed it away. 

Nervously she headed to Adare’s office and knocked gently. “Your highness? It’s Hazel. I have gingerbread... Is this a good time?”

I mean…sometimes it seems like he’s trying to do right by his people and sometimes it seems like he couldn’t care any less and is just doing whatever the fuck he wants? Newsflash, but that doesn’t make a good fucking leader, asshole.”
