A couple of drawings from last year that were on my summary but I never showed the full drawing.
My first year on tumblr with an art blog. Not all of this art was posted on tumblr but I chose to pick my favorite finished drawings from this year.
Another redraw
Since it is nearing the end of the year I decided to look back at some of my older art. This is a drawing I did from January that I redrew recently. I changed the colors and the pose slightly. A few things I’ve learned over this year and from looking back at this drawing are:
1. When you start off with a really light base color you don’t get much room for highlights.
2. Don’t be afraid to use lots of layers. Layers are there for a reason, to help you. So don’t feel bad for using layers.
And finally and this is a very important thing I learned this year
3. USE REAL LIFE REFERENCES. When I say this I mean use references from life. If you need to know how fabric folds get a towel and scrunch it up. I you want to draw a nose look at real people’s noses. Even if you want your art style to not be hyper-realistic it helps to understand how things look in the real world.
*Note these are not rules that must be followed these are just things I found that helped me.
