More interest generated in Golf Street Journal
Okay - it seems that there are still a few missing links in the information chain that has got Golfers from across LinkedIn wanting more information about TGSJ.
There were a couple more questions today on the main thread for this new social network site. Not being want to cast aspersions, but as well as the benefits of joining such a site Golfers want to know what's in it for them.
The first question posed was: "I'd be interested in learning a bit more about this network. How do you think members could benefit from membership?", followed swiftly by "I am a professional clubmaker/fitter, would this be a site where I could promote my business?"
Both are very fair comments; golfers are - by their very nature - men of business; time is money. It seems that no matter what the venture, it has to be worthwhile. As such, my response was thus:
Okay, I was just on my way up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire when I got a strange invite pop up in my inbox - must have been from my efforts to promote the UK Golf weekly ezine that's hit the virtual shelves today. I don't know, I'm sort of guessing. The response has been quite overwhelming.
But the invite was even more intriguing now I know than when it first stopped me from logging off - about three hours ago!
Now, in the blogosphere we have a very deep affinity with social media land - the more people we have share our content on their social media, the more Google likes our site and the more views both our content and that of our guest posters gets distributed, liked and promoted. Therefore we have to love our Soc Med associates.
So when an invite came across just as I was about to hit the hay to join an all-golf social media site, I flinched my finger back from the little red x to shut down Outlook. Intrigued I was.
And you know, I'm so glad I did!
The Golf Street Journal is a site that, from its blog archives (yes, a social media site with a built-in blog! Hard to believe, but hey-ho, there we go!), has only been live since June.
Well, I say live - a personal welcome note from one of the site owners (how often do you see that?), Erik, explained that their particular golf social media site was only in 'soft launch', hence they've not yet aggressively been marketing it. Like I say, Yet!
Answer me truthfully, when you've first joined a site that wasn't populated by family or school chums, how long did it take you to get, say, five people contact you? Okay, ten? Fifteen? Yeah, it's like pulling teeth, innit?
In the last three hours I've had seventeen people - all genuine golfers or golf fans - contact me to befriend me. I've checked out all of their profiles and the one young lady golfer, mm, she could so easily have been a model. Half a dozen time-weary, alcohol-laden Celts or a fit blonde from The States - who you gonna befriend first?
Anyway, the point of this post is just to let you know that, as golf moves into the virtual age, so too are its fans, at last. If you're sick and tired of being ignored as people think you're either too posh or well loaded because you spend your weekends in Mortal Combat with your fairway wood and are dying to meet up with other golfers online, head on over to The Golf Street Journal (tgsj, to you and I).
I'm Zebedeerox - remember that when you get over there and come and look me up!
Definitely, I'm off to bed - see you in the morning!
TTFN, Zebedeerox.
