Okay, Paradox fans, here are some very very rare pics for you-- A Very Special Holiday Present! From an inside source, close to the band, I have stills from the 1976 Rosie O' Dell Christmas Special which, as we all know was only broadcast one single time on the ABC Network on November 27, 1976 at 8 pm EST. That's it. No repeat broadcast, no video release, no bootlegs, no grainy betamax copies surfacing on youtube, nothing, nada, zilch. Both the band and Ms. O' Dell (and later her estate) have kept the lid tight on this one despite the fact that it was key to relaunching O' Dell's career and was also Paradox's first U.S. television appearance.
But that was really it, wasn't it - Paradox did not do TV as a strict rule. They would not appear on U.S. television again for another 20 years and that for a special edition of MTV's Unplugged. But they made this one exception -- for Rosie. This was because she was a good friend to the band and had been essential help to them after Tristam Lindsay and Alexander Logan were seriously injured in a car accident outside O'Dell's adopted hometown of Aspen, Colorado. Out of gratitude, they appeared in the special, but since she valued their friendship, she agreed to never let it be seen again.
Even so, on the momentum of the special, the previously nearly retired former radio star signed a three picture deal with 20th Century Fox to make the three "Don't Mess With Mother Nature" Movies costarring Karen Carpenter. Rosie was a trooper of the old old school and kept working until her 100th Birthday when she played a sold-out show at Caesar's Palace (famously attended by Tristam Lindsay and Alexander Logan). Recently, as Paradox asses their own Fifty-Year legacy, they have been thinking about Ms. Rosie O'Dell with great fondness and reassessing her influence on the band.
So, for all you hardcore Paradox-heads who have made it this far, a trivia question. What scene are these stills from?
The one in which a cover of Little Drummer Boy turns into a 15 minute drum solo.
The one in which Alex sings Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.
