broke: ron thinks harry isn't good enough for ginny

woke: ron thinks ginny isn't good enough for harry

bespoke: ron realizes that although his sister marrying his best friend would be nice in theory they both are better off with other people and ultimately he wants what's best for them and when he sees how happy ginny is to marry tonks, well, he's thrilled for her and is delighted to welcome tonks into the family...and when he sees how happy harry is to marry draco, well, he loves harry, so he pastes on the best imitation of a smile he can and if his grip on draco's hand when he welcomes him into the family (because let's face it, whether or not harry marries ginny, he's still family, which unfortunately means Draco is family now dear Merlin) is a bit vice-like and his smile a bit mechanical, well, who can blame him?

he softens eventually when he sees that even several years on harry really is happy with draco and draco truly seems to have changed and when he realizes that every holiday with the weasleys draco makes himself scarce because he's sure he'll never be wanted but he doesn't want to take away the only family harry has. so he makes himself unobtrusive and hopes he'll be tolerated for harry's sake. and that's not right is it? and suddenly ron finds himself actually seeking draco out and inviting him down when he's snuck off to bed early to stay out of everyone's way.

sure some wounds don't heal - like the scars on bill's face and fleur's snarl every time she looks at the man she holds nearly as responsible as greyback himself - but ron doesn't have it in him to be angry anymore. after all he's made mistakes hasn't he? he left, that time in the woods, walked out on the two people he loved most in the world. and sometimes he still wakes in a cold sweat from nightmares where he comes back and its too late and they're both lying dead and it's all his fault. it's not the same of course, but still, he understands what it is to regret. and the war's over now. and harry's happy. and draco's almost painfully polite these days and he works with werewolves at saint mungos and has friends in the muggle world that he made on his probation. so ron decides to give him a chance. after all, as harry often points out, none of them would be here if draco hadn't lied for them that day in the manor. it's not as good as being able to change your nose at will, he tells draco, but it'll do.

best friends to enemies. the angst?? the fluff?? they compete for james' attention whilst making out. during the war, peter plays sirius like a fiddle so sirius trusts him so much he convinces james to make him secret keeper. they have tried to kill each other. sirius has eaten rats in spite. they used to be in love and they hate that now.
