LOL. I just got blocked by an atheist.
I pointed out that he had replaced his previous faith-based beliefs (specifically, following Jesus) with a variety of other faith-based beliefs (belief without evidence, and in the face of evidence to the contrary), mostly from the realm of applied postmodernism, and he blocked me without even bothering (or being able) to refute my point.
It’s just a periodic reminder that lack of belief in gods doesn’t mean one is rational or even reasonable in other areas, and that beliefs are held for reasons other than truth.
Citing “lack of evidence” as a justification for lack of belief in gods, and then ignoring or refusing evidence in other areas is indicative of inconsistent skepticism, but quite frankly, nothing short of hypocritical. Either you value evidence or you don’t.
As always, atheism addresses one point and one point only: belief in god(s). And that’s it. It’s not a basis for commonality or association. Much less a “religion.”
BTW, if it’s any indicator, he used the phrase “good atheist.” Unironically.
