PSA! SUPPORT NIGHT OF TOO MANY STARS!!!
Okay so so so, if you’ve heard about the Comedy Show that will be on HBO, Night of Too Many Stars, you probably also heard the bit about “America Unites for Autism Programs.” Insert your moans/groans/sighs here. ONLY I DID SOME RESEARCH! The program which they are supporting is NOT the dreaded overly heard atrocity of an organization “Autism Speaks,” but is INSTEAD a program called “Next for Autism.” So I looked and got a general description of what it was, and interestingly enough what it isn’t and I’m totally for supporting this organization!
They address (without pointing fingers or calling names) that other organizations *cough* Autism Speaks *cough* “engage in advocacy or fund scientific research.” They then continue to talk about how they address “ the needs of people with autism and their families across the country, right now.” They have and support programs that tailor “to the skills & learning styles of adults with autism.”
Essentially, long story short, they aren’t looking to “cure” autism like Autism Speaks, they say “hey, you have skills, lets help you flesh them out so you can be a functioning adult.”
So please, if you want to donate to an autism organization, Next for Autism is awesome and you should watch Night of Too Many Stars
