3 good things for today (despite the reality of the last 24 hours)
The last 24 hours has been pretty rough. I haven't talked about it here, but last night (while out to dinner) I found out that an old friend of mine finally lost her battle with cancer. We had fallen out of touch quite sometime ago, but I still saw her through a myriad of status updates regarding treatment. One thing that I drew from these, was that she was starting to come to peace with things and was trying her best to find a healthy balance for her life, in order to help fight off the inevitable. She was a strong person and she was lost to the world far too young.
Regardless, I recognize that I cannot change things and that I must look on. It is what she would have wanted for everyone who loved her. I must look at this as a lesson, to take better care of myself and to be closer with the ones I care about. In an effort to find some good in the day, regardless of a whirlwind of emotions, I'm going to look to the positive.
3 good things:
Walked home from work today. 5.6 miles, Manhattan to Brooklyn style. Lauren is in Tennessee with her family this weekend and I remembered while I was leaving work how I used to walk and how since it has gotten cold, I never do so anymore. So I just walked home tonight. This is something I did fairly often when I was feeling healthier, not saying that it is the reason, but it is a behavior indicative of a person who is healthier and I think I need to find more time to do things like this.
Survived the Tumblr Friday lunch-pocolypse. Every Friday we have a catered team lunch, which is a fantastic thing to do as a company. For me however it is tough, because I don't eat the things everyone else eats. We've had fried chicken, pizza, burgers, and all sorts of other things I usually try to stay away from. Lately, I've been sort of just giving in to some of the less nebulous meals. Today though, we had sandwiches and instead of eating them, I simply took several sandwiches, tossed the bread and ate the turkey. Luckily there was some mixed greens to throw it on. Not my favorite lunch, nor the most filling, but I made the best of it. Also, no snacking at all today.
I started feeling normal again today. Maybe it was from crying last night (yes, I'm a man and I cried), but today I just sort of felt like my little internal dramas didn't deserve the time of day. Not saying I'm back or recovered, but it was nice to have a bit of a reprieve.
Tomorrow I celebrate life by dedicating it to healthy activities. Crossfit, bootcamp, running. Gonna do it all while I can.
