Taking on a New Perspective
This week all I did was read, read, read! That is how we learn though. I looked up Native Bloggers on Google and came up with some fascinating stuff. I went to check out Good Fox blog. She writes about pop culture, culture in general, politics, higher education, and Indian Country. I read her film review about the movie Avatar.
Good Fox reported the movie avatar as a reflection of history. Avatar has examples throughout that display what happened to the colonization in america. The true and reality of it all, although in the end the FDA leave in peace, the story here in america is not the same. There is an on going battle between the Native community and the government. There is so much history between the two that it seems to be lost in today’s education.
This comparison of the movie and history give a true meaning of what happened to the native community. She gives a relatable point of view that people can understand.
She is just one of the few people who puts their opinion out there for others to hear. Taking on a new perspective gives the viewers a new insight on natives. Reading from different writers you are able to formulate your own opinion. I highly suggest reading her post, and watching the movie before reading, of course.
Another great aspect about her post, is her promoting education. She has a reading list of several books about the native community. She even suggest reading certain books before others. Educating is the most important part when trying to make change.
Although she does not have many post I am excited what we have in store next! Her post are her opinion but I think that is the greatest thing about it. Having someone to live it, then write, and publish it is amazing. She is going to make a change if she keeps to it!
I visited another site called Beyond Buckskin, they are blog/online news platform. They promote native stores, music, and articles. They described themselves as:
“Beyond Buckskin empowers Native American artists and designers, advancing the quality of Native American fashion through education while providing an in depth podium for societal participation. Inspired by relevant historical and contemporary Native American clothing design and art, Beyond Buckskin promotes cultural appreciation, social relationships, authenticity and creativity.”
This is another platform for people to be educated and learn about the culture. This youthful site really connects to our generation. They are very eager to work with people who want to make a change in the community.
Having several people blogging, posting, and educating people can make a change. As i’ve learned in class all we need a a group of people to have another group of people to have another group of people and so on...to come together for the change. This is where it starts...with YOU! Find other people who want to make a change and you are already started.
