Susannah brought us into Detroit to hang around the One Direction concert, to see Olly Murs.
It was quite an experience.
But almost as soon as we got there early in the afternoon, we saw Olly's bus turning in. It was a pretty awesome bus - it looked like a white school bus but with Olly's name and face splashed all over it. Girls swarmed the bus as it tried to back out (because I think the theatre staff told them they couldn't be parked there) and Olly waved cheerfully.
We saw the 95.5 people hanging around. There were various moments of shrill screaming that were just false alarms.
We then decided we wanted to eat lunch, so we went to Hockeytown. In which 98.7 was doing some sort of promotion. Olly was also eating there, so there were also crowds of girls in there, ostensibly watching him eat? Near the end of our meal, there also was some sort of event going on upstairs? It may have been a 1D Meet and Greet, but we didn't really try to figure it out, although I suppose if we really wanted, we could've tried to sneak up there.
We also saw the tour buses come in, accompanied by lots of screaming. Apparently, as we were walking and the bus was passing by us, Janet saw somebody inside waving, but we actually didn't really notice and didn't wave back. Oops.
And then we actually saw Niall through the last window of the bus, but as soon as he saw all of the fans, he pulled down the shades. It was actually hilarious.
We hung about the stage door for a good portion of our time. Some of the fangirls tried to sneak in through the stage door, or there were these other doors that they had pried open and were listening in on (One of the first times security tried to close the door, one girl exclaimed that she needed to see her 'husbands'). And then some of them actually went in and were climbing up to the floors above and such. The theatre management found them and kicked them out, though. At some point, we also saw a girl hysterically sob her way into getting a ticket.
We then went and had dessert at the Hard Rock Cafe (Lunch at Hockeytown made us really really full), which was fun!
And then we hung around in the back and the girls would scream for every single person that came out the back door, whether they were actually 1D or not. Paul, who is apparently their manager or bodyguard or something, seemed to have fangirls as well. Seeing how we could see over all of the girls really made us feel how we were significantly older than all of the girls there. Like they made their parents drive them here as soon as school ended for them.
But anyway, that proved handy when Liam and Niall walked out of their buses to go back into the theatre. Liam waved and I didn't get too much of a glimpse of Niall, because I was trying to take a picture. But apparently Niall was fascinated by Olly's bus and took a picture of it.
And then we waited to see if we could chat with Olly, but he didn't come and chat with anybody. We did see his buses leaving, though - and a glimpse inside showed that everyone in that bus had already busted out their beers, lulz. (And we were going to ask him if he wanted to go to a bar with us, puahaha)
So yeah, it was an eventful day. Niall and Liam are actually my faves in One Direction, so I'm pleased that they're the members I saw, and I got to see Olly, and also eat at Hockeytown and the Hard Rock Cafe. So great success!
My toes are still freezing, though.
