😃 For a general headcanon of our muses

Yes, I have a headcanon where Gideon never died and he lives happily ever after, the end :)

But for real, I’ve always had it in my head that Molly was closest to Gideon, which I think I may have told you before? Possibly? Either way, she’s always felt closer to Gideon despite being around Fabian more in school, which is why his death has affected Molly so much worse than Fabian’s. Yes, she was heartbroken when Fabian died–if you hadn’t noticed by now–but Gideon’s death kind of…snapped her. She’s not sure what to do with herself now that she no longer has Gideon in her life. He’s always been the one that Molly went to when she had problems (i.e. her fight with Arthur), and she was always more willing to listen to what Gideon had to say in terms of advice. Gideon was the one person that Molly would listen to without fail, and now he’s gone, so she’s lost.

Gideon,

I couldn’t do it. I just kept going over everything in my head all night. I counted the bruises. I read over the letters I was supposed to send. I kept imagining what his face would look like in the morning when he found my bed empty. And I couldn’t do it. I don’t expect you to understand me; I don’t understand me. I couldn’t even tell you who it is I’m doing this for anymore. But I don’t know how to not be this person, just like you wouldn’t know who to be without Fabian, and I can’t drag you down with me. You deserve better.

I tell myself I’m just too proud to abandon ship like this, but maybe you were right last night. Maybe I’m too scared to know the difference. Guess you win this one.

Vitriolic Best Buds: They’re best friends. You can tell because they bicker Like an Old Married Couple. Like a beautiful and delicate snowflake, no two friendships are alike. Unlike the beautiful and delicate snowflake, some friendships break out the flamethrowers in the face of this sickening sweetness. These guys bicker constantly. They’re always sniping at each other. They snark relentlessly. They duke it out on equal terms, hurling insults at one another with prejudice. But underneath the verbal fencing is a rock-solid friendship that no Smug Snake could hope to chip at. Often, they have opposite morals, personalities, or fighting ability which is presumably the cause of the vitriol (or maybe it’s just because they’re both Deadpan Snarkers).

We Used To Be Friends: The reasons might vary, but bottom line is, the once tight bond between the character(s) in question and their former friend(s) is severely damaged, if not completely broken. Instead of love and sympathy, at least one of them feels aversion, distrust, and/or disdain for the other(s). Whether they start actively fighting each other or simply share a broken bond and avoid each other will vary, but since things sometimes don’t work out the way they are supposed to, they can’t reconcile by the end of the episode.

“...Fabian? Oh my god, I thought you were dead! Wait until I--”

“Oh. Oh, the other one. Shit, Gideon, I...I’m so sorry.”

Tell me an embarrassing story about Gideon and Fabian?

“Alright children, settle down, because this one’s a doozy. Picture years and years ago--I’m talking around the fifties, because we’re all that old. Anyway, it’s years ago, and I’m about three, yeah? That would make Gideon and Fabian about five. Now, in the most noble house of Prewett, we’re lucky enough to have two bathtubs, two bathrooms, et cetera. Mother told the two to go up and take baths once they came inside, and because I’m the good child--and I was too young to be wrestling outside at the time--I stayed inside with my toys. In come the dirt covered twins, and up they go to take their baths, because Mother would refuse to let dirt in her household. Da didn’t care much, but he never did.

Or so she thought they were doing that.

Twenty minutes go by and they’re still not done, yeah? So she puts down her book and goes upstairs to check on the two, and there they are... Naked. They’re naked in their rooms because they didn’t want a bath, and they thought leaving crumpled up clothes in the bathrooms would make it look like they had gone to wash up. Now, Mother is furious, and no one wants to mess with her when she’s furious. The twins knew that by that point, and they promptly began to scream bloody murder, running out of the house and right past Da as he was getting home from work. He was confused, my mother was mad as hell, and she pushed past him as well to chase after them.

Just imagine the scene: two naked five year olds darting into the forest behind our home, screaming loudly, while a well-respected witch had to kick off her high heels to chase after them, also shouting at the top of her lungs to get them back into the house so they could just wash up. It’s amusing to say the least.

Granted, I was only three, so I don’t remember it myself, but the story was told enough times over the years that I can recount every detail. Ask Gideon about it sometime, though he’d probably deny that such an event ever happened.

Then again, it was a happy event with Fabian, so maybe he’ll tell it after all. Good memories to relive and such.”

Gideon’s Flat

Molly should have suspected her brother taking the twins to the carnival while she got some quiet time would end in something bad happening. She should have, but with all that had happened recently, she thought nothing of it. Gideon was her brother, after all. She trusted her children with him just as much as she trusted Arthur with them. So the two went off when he came by to pick them up, but before Molly could get a word in about being careful, the three were gone, door left open in their wake. Molly had stared at the door uncertainly, swallowing thickly and moving to close it a moment later. 

Gideon hadn’t really spoken much to her since Christmas. Something had shifted, and she didn’t like it. 

Fast forward four days after the carnival, and Molly was sitting down with the (unusually calm) twins, drawing with them and complimenting the scribbles that they claimed were the tents at the carnival. This was nice and relaxing, and Molly wore a smile until Fred put down his crayon and said, “Uncle Gid saw Uncle Bean. Why?”

Any relaxation that she had felt was gone in an instant, and her hand stopped whatever shape it was making as she turned to look at her son. “He couldn’t have, sweetie. Uncle Bean--” Here her voice wavered. “--hasn’t moved back here.” Moved back here. How else could she describe her brother’s death to a three year old? She wasn’t sure there was one.

“But he did!” George had chimed in, interest on his mother and brother. “In the mirror!”

“...we’ll talk about it later. Finish up your drawings, alright? You’re doing wonderful jobs.” 

It wasn’t until later that day that Molly had released the children onto her husband, only briefly explaining what had happened before heading off to Gideon’s flat. She hadn’t been there in months, simply because Gideon had always ended up at her home instead. There had never been a reason to come here, but one close look at his front door made Molly’s posture tense. It was rigged in a similar fashion to the door of their childhood home, a trap that Griff had put up mere days after their mother’s death. “Please don’t become another dad,” Molly whispered before knocking on the door repeatedly. Best not touch the doorknob.

“Gideon Prewett, open up this damn door.”
