Our fellow lettering comrade from Melbourne, Australia @katepullendraws reached out to us about hosting a Goodtype Tuesday to help raise awareness around the massive and devastating bushfires in Australia.
As you may know by now, bushfires are currently raging across Australia. Soaring temperatures, incredibly dry conditions and strong winds have meant firefighters have spent months on the front lines, homes have been destroyed, families have lost loved ones, and it is now estimated that over a billion wildlife have perished.
From Kate: "This is especially terrifying when we are only at the start of bushfire season. This, coupled with the inaction of our leaders who continue to deny the connection between climate change and extreme weather events, makes the future a scary place."
"What is heartening is to see all of the wonderful emergency services, and the incredible generosity of people all over the world, donating money, time, goods, their voices and their services to help those affected. And we need to keep helping, keep lending our voices, to bring about change and to assist in rebuilding these communities that have lost so much. Because their pain is going to be felt long after the last fire has gone out. Australia, we love you." Your challenge is to letter any of the following options: • Things you love about Australia • Letter your favourite Aussie animal / flower • What would you say to your local politician (to help such fierce weather conditions in the future) • Which organisation would you like to support • A message of solidarity • How you could help in a crisis Use the hashtag #GoodtypeBushfire and #GoodtypeTuesday. Below are verified places you can support if you wish: @redcrossau @wildlifevictoria @nswrfs @cfavic @salvosau @wireswildliferescue @therescuecollective have requested vouchers for certain retailers. Link in their bio. @spendwiththem has been setup by @turiapitt and @graciemcb and allows those to shop with small businesses affected by fire. Remember, this is all for the encouragement and practice of lettering. And in this case, to also raise awareness around the devastation affecting our fellow Aussie comrades. https://www.instagram.com/p/B7Qwp_bJx6N/?igshid=4t75yqek955x
