I can't believe gordon does this I'm . not okay

I love the little snippets we get of his personality. he's so cute. he's the symbol of god damn hope dude he's SICK "the one free man" ???? that's awesome ??? this guy survived WHAT?? okay. okay yeah whatever. what's that? he's also a cutie? I'm gonna be sick. would race barney crawling in the vents?? plays with the bugs?? gordon. I want you. ok sorry but he's so cute to me I'm hovering my hands over him....ggrrhrgrgg....I just like using the word cute but I think he's rly rly cool and I'm very emotional over him especially because he's such a positive character (protag, hero, positive traits) which is important because very popular HCs includes him being autistic, selectively mute, queer, and chronically ill. it's pretty common for these communities to only be placed upon a negative character (villain, etc.) so it makes me SO happy that someone so beloved is also the spotlight of such representation within a portion of the fandom. he's a really comforting character because he rly reassures me about also being in a ton of those previously mentioned communities :3

I will tolerate any treatment. Like I’m the One Free Man, and I’ll put up with anything. I’ll work at a garbage research facility— You know, I don't wanna name an actual facility so let’s just make one up; let’s call it “Black Mesa.” So I’ll go to work at Black Mesa and I'll show up at the testing chamber and I’ll go, “Can I go to the lab, please?” And they go, “No. Push the crystal into the laser.” And I go, “Okaaay!” And then I push the crystal into the laser and black out. And then I come to and I go, “Any updates?” And they go “Yeah, the fucking thing exploded and opened a portal to an alien world and now you have to deal with it. Because we hate you. Now take this crowbar that does 3 damage, go fetch!” And I go, “Okaaay!” And they tell me to kill a space god and I go, “Can I maybe not please?” and they go “NO!” And I go, “Okaaay!” And they go, “You’re a little gayboy, aren’t you?” And I go, “Nooo,” and they go, “SAY IT!” and I go, “I’m a little gayboy!” And then I end up in a void with a guy with creepy glowing eyes and a briefcase and suit pants that are too big for him and I go, “Can I at least see if my boyfriend is alive and okay?” and he goes “No! In fact, we’re gonna keep you in the void, and you’re gonna be in stasis for twenty years!” And I go, “Why are you doing this to me?!” And he goes, “Because we’re Black Mesa, and life is a fucking nightmare!”

I really loved this scene in @agendersynth‘s hivemind barney fic, where barney leads gordon back to his dorms and then is left longing and decides to, as embarrassing it is for him, to comfort himself.
