“Requirements are tests of passion and determination.”
Recently I covered a readers and writers festival here in the Philippines for our campus paper. I found myself really privileged to be there listening to the talks, despite the dreary bed-weather at that time, but when I returned home and sat down to write my article, it hit me. That dreaded block. I spent around three unproductive hours browsing art videos and Twitter feeds; nothing was coming up. I didn’t know where to start. I was running under a 600-word limit, and there was just so many things to talk about. As I was distractedly chatting with some old high school friends, this good friend of mine checked up on me and asked how I was doing. He shared with me a love for literature, so when I told him how unproductive I was with my article, he didn’t hesitate to perk me up. And this was one of the things he told me.
I joined the campus paper because I love to write and share my stories. I live for the craft of creating art through words. If your passion becomes a requirement, and that requirement has nearly and unattainable standard, remember to express what comes from your heart. They will always show your best side, and your best work.
Have a good day :)
