For all formerly and presently captured women 

She was built on perfection.

Like a machine,

her gears spun that way.

It was like she was created

to be that way,

A human truth,

A proven theory.

When she touched you,

You felt like the keys

Of a piano;

Her hand grazing you

like an instrument

waits to fulfill its impulse:

music.

Her breath was like the breeze

when it drifted,

managing to find your flesh

Goosebumps would rise

And rise and rise

Like the crust breaking into

Ranges and trenches and canyons.

But when she smiled,

you finally felt the space between you

and her,

you found the area you had not yet crossed.

You wanted to own that smile,

That touch,

Those lungs.

You wanted to collect it.

But only in the way

That someone preserves

Butterflies,

By pinning their wings back

So they can’t leave you,

And as you tried to contain her,

Her smiles faded

And her breeze became a sigh

And when you moved near,

her entire body seemed to 

gravitate away from you.

She felt that grip you meant to tighten,

your instinct to restrain.

She ran from you

And your glass casings

And your strings

And your pins.
