Film shot in Takaoka

A new film is currently shot in our city. The title of the film is “Densan” that is derived from Dento Sangyo (traditional industry) in Japanese. As the title is shown, the film theme is copper ware that has been the main industry in Takaoka for 400 years. 

One of main characters is played by Akihiro Nishino. He is well-known as a stand-up comedian and has a unique talent for other fields. As he does not hesitate to express his candid opinion (it is quite rate to find such young person in the Japanese entertainment industry), his twitter was capable of causing offence. He is also famous for an author of picture books. You can check some of his pictures here. He threw a solo art exhibition at one art space in New York. It is interesting how he plays a caster.

The film is to be released next summer. You might find one of our products whilst you are watching this film.

A Short Film made in Takaoka

If you would like to learn Takaoka and its traditional industry before coming to the city, please watch this film, “Suzu - monochrome”. 

The short film was shot in Takaoka, and it illustrates dignity and anxiety of craftsmanship. Takaoka Traditional Industry Youth Association projected and produced this film to commemorate its 40th anniversary and spread the reality of Japanese craftsmanship. 

You will see the atmosphere at copper ware workshops and scenery in Takaoka. Some crafts people in the film are real crafts people in Takaoka. You can enjoy their techniques as well as their acting.  

For us it is not uncommon story and not uncommon sights, but for you everything might be new and unique.

Takaoka Craft Ichiba-machi

Every October I am looking forward to the craft event, Takaoka Craft Ichiba-machi. As a local person, I am happy the event is getting bigger and better.

The city will overflow with 300 craft people, 5000 arts and crafts, and more than 20 activities! There are many events and activities taking place around the city centre such as craft competition, exhibitions, factory tours, craft markets,  food stalls, flea market, farmer’s market, craft workshops and more. 

Hope it is the good weather to walk around this weekend!

Takaoka Craft Ichiba-machi 2013

Our office is located in Takaoka-shi, which is known for Japanese urushi lacquer, metal works and woodworks. The city has top-quality processing techniques, from polishing to colouring.  All the skills required at each step can be found here. We have many events related craftsmanship and design throughout the year. From 3rd to 7th October, ‘Takaoka Craft Ichiba-machi’ is to be held. There are many activities related craftsmanship during the event. Please come and enjoy the latest works as well as traditional ones. Let’s make tin products

Our factory is located in Takaoka-shi. The city is the biggest production centre of copperware, and is famous for its refined production techniques for copper products in Japan. 

When you walk around the city, you will find many bronze statues and metallic products. If you are interested in designing or making your own products, an art Gallery, Han Bun Ko, introduced DIY kit - how to make Tin products. With this kit, you can make tin products at home.

Even though it is cold, how about going out for 'nabe' dishes this weekend?

Nabe is popular Japanese hot pot dishes served especially in cold winter. The dish is so versatility that there are a wide variety of ingredients to choose from. You can choose as you like from seafood, vegetables, chicken, beef, and pork or more!

During this festival, you can try many nabe dishes, such as crab nabe, seafood nabe and ‘cream stew’ nabe. At various sites in the city centre those nabe are cooked in big aluminium pots, 2-metre diameter pots, which are big enough to feed 3,000 people at one time.

It is fun to walk around to try as many nabe as you would like, or enjoy some other local foods and fun events.
