it was reckless, if not just plain stupid. venturing into arkham city by herself was a DEATH SENTENCE in itself; she was well aware, but no one else dared. no one else at the gazette had the guts to pursue the rumored corruption and horror that was behind hugo strange’s walls. she expected the worst from gotham’s darkest corner, but nothing could have prepared her for the onslaught of chaos that existed inside. the flash on her camera alerts a group of inmates of her presence; the daunting realization that the taser in her bag would not be enough, hitting her as they approached.

and then he suddenly drops in, cascading darkness: some guardian angel, a dark knight, the BATMAN. she’s never seen him quite this close; in his raw, menacing and magnificent existence. she breathes incredulously, doing as he says, taking a step back.
