A Haiku for Gothic 4: Arcania
*clears throat*
I had such high hopes
Arcania crushed them all
I miss Gothic 3
OR
I like that you tried
the "no loading screen" gameplay
But it didn't work
Now I'm sad, but I'm also in a haiku mood. Message me and I'll try to make one about you or anything you'd like.
Arcania: Gothic 4
I've been playing Arcania lately (I got the whole collection on Steam awhile back when it was on sale), and I actually enjoy it. I haven't played any of the other Gothic games, but I intend too. Apparently 4 is quite different than the others, some said it was dumbed down, which may be the case, but it's still fun. It kind of reminds me of Two Worlds, a series I like (but with great difficulty).
Observation: Europeans LOVE alchemy in their RPGs.
Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you.
There have been a few, but this one takes the cake.
I tried to enjoy this game. I really did. I loved the earlier games, and I actually really liked the buggy mess that was Gothic 3. But it's hard to pinpoint just one thing I don't like about Gothic 4. I admittedly didn't make it very far into the storyline, so I can't say anything about that, but the gameplay was very run-and-click to kill things. This was a big shift from 3, where you had to aim to hit things, so that was my first complaint. But the camera angles are sketchy and a bitch to tighten up and center on the character, the auto-aim makes archery the easiest combat style in the world, and the character is terribly animated during cutscenes and not relatable at all.
Oh, and he looks like this. Sprayed on goatee and all.
I try not to be too harsh on this game, but it was a real let down for the series to me. Especially for a game that was supposed to have a fully explorable world bigger than Oblivion's Cyrodiil.
