in the bluntest & least rude way I can possibly express this…. I’m going to be honest & hold your hand when I say that I sincerely could not possibly give less of a flying fuck about what other people think of how I draw or design my own original characters (as long as it’s not offensive). okay. got that. I’m getting that out of the way immediately
& I do half apologize if my reply comes off as rude, but no matter who you are or how well you may know me, I do not appreciate people anonymously coming into my space with unsolicited critique & patronizing me like I’m a small uninformed child in the process. if you have suggestions or critique or want to discuss something with me, drop the anonymity & the fake niceties & reach out to me directly via askbox or dms. I do not take the advice of anons, & if you’re gonna be a coward, you’re gonna get an entirely blunt & honest reply. call me a mean lesbian all you want, but I’m a blunt person who doesn’t enjoy catering to the feelings of anons, & I think that’s reasonable!
so according to the gal fun police over here, I’m going against the “rules” of the delinquent subculture that was created to…. checks notes….. use fashion & vibrant self expression to rebel against & break rules. lmao? 😭 there are about a billion different ways to do gyaru makeup & it never looks exactly the same on anyone. in fact, there’s SO MANY that do the exaggerated white droop just like Aeka does. do you think I just pulled her makeup out of my ass orrrrrrr
I’m not even gonna mention the fact that her makeup looks nearly identical to those pics or the fact that she does absolutely have undereye highlights too 99% of the time
besides the fact that I’m literally on model, Aeka’s makeup is what we artists call *stylization*. I have an art style that is unique to me, and thus, my characters have aspects of their design that may be altered to suit my art style. my art style is much more focused on the big picture & general shapes, as I do not like texturing or drawing small details, which applies to her makeup. lorewise, Aeka also learned to do her makeup not from popular 2000s gal figures as you’ve described, but from her best friend in middle school who identified as… wait for it…. manba gyaru. yknow. the substyle in part known for the big stark white droops.
AND. at the end of the day Aeka’s a fan character for JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE 🥹 you are critiquing the makeup accuracy of a JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE FAN CHARACTER 🥹🥹 Aeka is a blue-eyed wasian with the power to make her drawings appear in real life. none of ts is ever that serious I promiseeee girl
not gonna post the apology I received (because I don’t feel good about putting that on blast), but I accept your apology & forgive you strawpage anon, it’s alright !!
I’m particularly sensitive to unsolicited anonymous critique through strawpage, as I’ve been the victim of prolonged targeted harassment through the site before, so I did get a little defensive & I do apologize for that; I didn’t mean to upset you, either. I still stand by the general point of what I said, my art & design is my own & I won’t be making any big changes, but I’m not upset at you nor the advice. I hope we’re chill from here on out :p
think im gonna start using some kinda tag for my posts that indicates what kinda mood I’m in (in relation to my bipolar) because I’m usually very self-aware, but I can really say some crazy out of pocket shit sometimes when I’m hypomanic, just because my thoughts are so fast & impulsive & incoherent. like even just now I’m struggling to type because my brain is moving faster than my fingers & I can’t reread my words because it gets all jumbled
feels cringe but I reeeeeaaaally don’t want people looking at something I’ve said when I wasn’t in the most normal state of mind & think it was fully intently intended by me
