Goubuli Restaurant Concept
Goubuli International
Singapore
The interiors of the restaurant have to reflect the ingredients used in 9Goubuli’s signature dish – the Baozi. An ingredients lattice was creatively produced to match the Chinoiserie style set inside the restaurant and likewise, to showcase the lattices commonly used in ancient imperial architecture.

We selected a square for the menu to echo the traditional style of urban planning in ancient Chinese cities like Peking and Hsi’an. The square also frames close-ups of dishes on alternate pages of the menu, creating an intimate visual association between the reader and the food.

9 Goubuli
Goubuli International
Singapore, Tientsin (China)
A first in Singapore, the famous Goubuli (狗不理) brand wanted to bring a taste of its bun to the Marina Bay Sands. With a single brush stroke, the ‘9′ echoes the longevity of the brand having been founded in 1858. The branding was also based on chinoiserie accents and a old modernity reminiscent of 1930s Shanghai.

Bun maker Goubuli’s pending purchase of a major US coffee chain reflects China’s growing appetite for foreign food firms, which is likely to yield 1 or 2 blockbuster deals this year.
