Is there any particular reason you ship Betsy and Morris or did the idea just come to you one day?
it comes from morris's diary regarding what happened right after the duel and elizabeth's behavior:
it honestly started just based on total vibes when i was writing RD, and then as i continued writing i was like ... wait ... it actually kind of feels right for morris to be extremely protective of her, given who she was, who her husband was, how she reacted at her husband's death, and how morris had a reputation for being accepting and supportive of widows or doomed women (irl, he married a virginian woman named anne "nancy" cary randolph after she'd been accused of murdering an illegitimate child she'd had with her lover. her lover was then found dead and she was suspected of murdering him too, but nothing ever came of it. she then ran away and lived in connecticut before she agreed in 1809 to work as a housekeeper for morris, whom she had known previously - they married the same year). anyway, like i said, in the context of RD and that narrative it made sense and it kind of spiraled from there LMAO.

does anyone know the actual reason gouvenor morris lost his leg? or was he born like that?

My favorite thing about Morris is the fact he lost a leg before he was thirty is perhaps the least interesting thing about him.
