Good People Doing Good Things -- Feeding The Hungry
Good Wednesday morning, friends! I think it’s about time we celebrated some of those good people out there doing good things, don’t you? The past two weeks, my ‘good people’ posts have been delayed, but this week I’m determined to get it out on Wednesday … we really need the reminders about all those out there who are going about the business of being helpers! Today’s good people are all…
Way to go, Governerds!!!! Sharon McMahon's Instagram community (https://www.instagram.com/sharonsaysso/) raised over $1 million for RIP Medical Debt - in just around a week! That will abolish approximately $100 MILLION in Medical Debt!
Sharon's community has raised over $9 million in total over the past 2-3 years. Over the last 2 weeks, we raised $1.5 million! All this in addition to the non-biased government knowledge, an interesting podcast (https://www.sharonmcmahon.com/listen ), and fun dog stories (one ate a raw Thanksgiving turkey this year!).
Really y'all - give it a try. Sharon's a good egg, and a rare bright spot on the Interwebs. :)
Join the Governerds community of @SharonSaysSo and help raise $100K to eliminate burdensome debt for families this holiday season!
Sharon's a great follow on IG: https://www.instagram.com/sharonsaysso/
I know friends and family of different political persuasions who follow/appreciate Sharon and her community of Governerds. Not just for cool US history, or political explanations, or the book club, but for all the good they do & inspire others to do.
From the 12/1 IG post:
The antidote to despair is action. When you feel overwhelmed by bad news, instead of thinking about it nonstop like a hamster on a wheel or choosing to ignore it because you can’t see a way to fix it and you’re only one person, do something small and imperfect.
Do for one person what you wish you could do for everyone.
Bring one person a meal.
Bring one homeless veteran some warm socks.
Watch one toddler so their parents can have a break.
Drop off toiletries at one domestic violence shelter.
Contribute to one GoFundMe.
If we all do something small and imperfect, we will make far more change than waiting until the perfect plan appears.
Because we are the plan.
Giving doesn’t just benefit the recipient, giving changes the giver.
We’re the plan. And we may learn to build the plane while flying it, but let’s get this airborne and see where it takes us. ❤️❤️❤️

In the last week for Giving Tuesday, Sharon's community has raised $252,000 for a family with a child battling cancer, $152k for a single mom who lost everything in a fire, and $173k for a firefighter mom to get a mobility van for her disabled son.
In the last TWO DAYS, we've raised over $600,000 for RIP Medical Debt (the same charity John Oliver spotlighted & donated to on his show blasting the debt collection industry). That's over $60 million dollars of medical debt that'll be erased!!! When we did a similar fundraiser in 2021, almost 75,000 people got letters saying their debt had been totally forgiven. (sobby face emoji)
That's over a million dollars in less than a week. That's putting some good back into this crazy world.
(Plus, fun tidbits: like about how Sharon's dog busted into her garage, into the refrigerator, and ate the brining 20lb Thanksgiving turkey the night before! LOL Molly the dog is ok, and seemingly unrepentant of her crimes. :) )
Sharon McMahon is one of my favorite follows on Instagram - she’s honestly taught me a lot about the US government, history, eagles, etc. She and her followers have raised millions of dollars for good causes before (RIP Medical Debt is a great example), and now she’s doing it again for teachers. You’ve got to apply (no nominations this time), for info or to donate see the Instagram link before.
As of now, Sunday 17 July 2022, The Governerds have raised almost a million dollars. :)
