Completely new to FS. Who are the seeded skaters for next season's GPs?

Seeded skaters for the GP series in the season 2022-2023 are the top 6 of the World Championship 2022

Seeded skaters:

Men Singles: Shoma Uno, Yuma Kagiyama, Vincent Zhou, Morisi Kvitelashvili, Camden Pulkinen and Kazuki Tomono

Women Singles: Kaori Sakamoto, Loena Hendrickx, Mariah Bell, Young You, Anastasiia Gubanova (Alysa Liu placed 3rd but retired, so won't compete in the GP series)

Pairs: Alexa Knierem/Brandon Frazier, Riku Miura/Ryuchi Kihara, Vanessa James/Eric Radford, Karina Safina/Luka Berulava, Minerva-Fabienne Hase/Nolan Seegert, Evelyn Walsh/Trennt Michaud

Ice Dance: Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron, Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donohue, Madison Chock/Evan Bates, Charlene Guignard/Marco Fabri, Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier and Lilah Fear/Lewis Gibson (Hubbell/Donohoe and Papadakis/Cizeron hinted at retirement, but there is no official statement yet)

The places 1-3 of Worlds and the places 4-6 of Worlds won't meet each other in the GP series. Means for example that Yuma and Shoma won't be in the same GP competition.

I actually don't know what happens if seeded skaters retire, if the skaters placed below move up as seeded skaters or if it's not relevant. I never thought about this much before 🤔

Edit: I was told that in the link for the explanation post I posted earlier it said when seeded skaters retire skaters in places out of top 6 move up. Thanks for telling!

It's just been announced Yuzu wouldn't participate in any GP serie this season.

And while it WILL be hard not to see him skate until maybe Nats (my bets are more on 2021), I'm glad he made the decision. He already said he was anxious about Worlds 2020 because of this risks of either getting or spreading the virus so it's no surprise, with the pandemic still going, that he took this huge step back.

This way the ISU, or anyone for that matter, can't use his name to promote the GP series. God only knows if there will be any series at all, but it sends a very strong signal to withdraw this early.

He's putting his own and others' safety before his love and passion for his sport and we can only admire and respect him for it. Him knowing people would've travelled to see him and not wanting to risk that shows again, if needed, how big is his heart. Him putting his team and his fans' health first states again that he's thinking of the bigger picture, not about just him in the center.

I'm so happy I chose such a compassionate and selfless athlete, person, to support with all my heart. He's never let me down and today only proves he never will.

Thank you so much for your reply on the Torino GPF! It was very thorough and interesting. I was also wondering, how long in advance did you buy your tickets? Also, this one is a bit more personal so you don't have to answer but, you mentioned spending a good time with people there, did you go with friends or did you meet new people there directly? Also - I'm sorry there are so many questions, but this is the first season I *may* be able to go to some competitions hahaha - do you remember how long after the announcement of the GP assignments the tickets are made available for sale? Thank you!

1. How long in advance did you buy your tickets?

For the GPF I bought some of the tickets shortly after the release like 2 months before the competition. As I got some more days off from work I bought more tickets just a day prior to the event. It really depends on where you want to sit and who attends. If Yuzu is likely to attend and you want a seat closer to the ice, you should buy shortly after release. If it's only about attending the event, you can buy tickets on the day. Unless it's in Japan no event is booked to the extent that 0 seats are available.

2. How long after GP assignments ticket go to sale?

That depends on the competition. Some release shortly after announcement. With covid ticket sales went up much later. Usually it's about 4-8 weeks before an event or at least that's how I remember it. (I recommend looking for accommodation earlier and just reserving accommodation when tickets go on sale usually places to stay closer to the venue are harder to get.)

3. Did you go with friends or meet new ppl there directly?

As I go to competitions for quite a while now there are some skating friends of mine, where we plan beforehand to meet at the competition. You can say I met them online first, became irl friends at competition and then we met again at the next competitions. I am in the lucky position to have made some really good friends in the skating community over the years. And I am also lucky to have a sister who is a skating fan too and went with me to competition, for example Worlds 2022.

But I also went to competitions where I didn't know anyone and met new ppl there, some of them I stayed in contact afterwards, with some I didn't. I also met some of the Tumblr fans here.

Worlds 2022 was very funny because I met lots of ppl again that I have met before at various competitions. 😊

I don't mind personal questions btw, I will ofc opt out if they cross my personal boundary, but I have to say that hardly happened in all my years here.

So I was sure ISU would cancel the GPs and I would have been fine with it...

BUT apparently it's NOT CANCELLED!

And I don't know how to feel about it. I still just cannot see it happening or at least not without drastic changes to the format.

We don't have any further information at the moment about safety measurements etc. and 4CC 2020 did also happen with the virus already being a problem, but still the pandemic is a lot more of a problem as it has been in February, the travel restrictions are still in place for a lot of countries, so I don't know how athletes will be able to travel to the competitions. I just cannot see it happening and that's before taking into consideration how risky it is for the athletes. I mean their safety should be first!

I mean I love competitions and I will be very happy if I can see a competition even if just on screen, BUT not at every cost.

I would feel much better about the decision if they would have presented a safety guide and a format on how it should happen. To just decide something and have no plan is the worst idea I have ever seen.

I don't know...if competitions will happen I will watch them (there is no need in denying that I won't because I am too curious to not care) and I won't judge any participating athlete because they are not responsible for ISU's decisions. But I also won't be surprised if a lot of athletes decide to not participate in the GPs and that would be fine (I just don't know how much such a decision would affect their careers) . We also can expect a lot of withdrawal of athletes from the competitions and that's fine too.

All in all I am not very happy with this decision, because now I worry even more than before. A cancelation does hurt in a way of regret to not see amazing skating and not be able to enjoy the things I love, but actually it's a final cut. But this uncertainty of how the events happen and the risk the competition is for athletes and coaches is so much more worrying. There is no peace within it, just more questions and uncertainties. I hate it already.
