The Grammys' division of the Alternative and Rock categories is so confusing it's hilarious. The fact alone that Coldplay has been nominated in both categories shows how nonsensical the criteria had become.

This was I think sent to me around the last Grammy nominations, but even this year was really bad. To me, the fact that the Beatles and Rolling Stones won in two rock categories, in a year that has been so good for guitar and rock music, is just so backwards and dinosaur of them. I'd find it funny if not for how outlets are now reviewing this Grammys by saying, 'was this the best one they've done in years?' and I imagine that will only encourage them to be less adventurous with their picks next year.

I am really happy for St. Vincent that she swept the alternative categories, she certainly deserves it, but it also just goes to show how limited the Recording Academy's knowledge of music really is. Every year it feels like they are aware of like 5 artists ever and they keep awarding them multiple prizes instead of finding more artists.

Sidenote: Coldplay actually did better on this than the Grammys this year, they brought on Grace Bowers, who is this kickass 18-year-old southern American rock guitarist child prodigy (from I think Nashville or Tennessee?) Now that's a young person truly making new rock music who got a platform, and that was because of Coldplay and not the Recording Academy themselves.
