I lay down on the forest floor And the wide world came to me, Up and up to the far flecked light The great boles pulled me as I lay. My arms thrown wide reached far far realms And far far realms reached out for me. My senses widening failed in sleep. Waking I saw on the mould of the forest floor Was crumpled fern—alas my favorite maidenhair! Pressed to my stature even to the arms far-flung. I looked on my naked flesh and lo was grained The imprint of the forest floor even to the fronds And finest veins of my loved maidenhair!
