A blog post about a cold... this is probably boring, but I found it interesting
You may have seen a post about natural remedies and such. If you're reading this, you probably have because I've re-blogged it a couple times. Anyway, there was one thing on peppermints and their effect on nasal de-congestion. Apparently, mint is a natural remedy for that. I woke up with a stuffy nose that, frankly, was giving me a headache from not being able to breath right and I chewed four Altoids, thinking of the post I had read. I tried it and low and behold, maybe thirty seconds later, I could breath!
I was blowing my nose like crazy, but at least I could breathe!
When my boyfriend was at the store, he called and asked if there was anything I wanted. My knee jerk reaction was to ask for chicken noodle soup. I've always had this since I was a kid when I had a cold, as I'm sure many of you have as well. Ever wonder why people shove this soup at you when you're sick?
I ended up looking it up and sure enough, grandma was right about giving you this delicious concoction.
Chicken soup actually has anti-inflammatory properties that help sooth your throat and clear your nasal passages.
It also helps stop the movement of neutrophils -- white blood cells that eat up bacteria and cellular debris and which are released in great numbers by viral infections like colds.
Neutrophil activity can stimulate the release of mucous, which may be the cause of the coughs and stuffy nose caused by upper respiratory infections such as colds.
In any case... eat, my friends, and feel better soon!!
and I giggle every time I use it because now all I can think of is glee and Blaine Anderson's chest. (Laurmander asked me why i was still sick and I told her that it's because Tina Cohen-Chang hasn't rubbed this on my chest in my sleep LOL)
Also, I'm using these during the day and night:
but be forewarned on the NyQuil ! While we all love this stuff and sleep like fetus' in a womb when we take it, it's massively habit forming and the second you don't use it, prepare for a cranky night of insomnia. I took it for two nights, then not last night and was up until 4 AM before I caved and took it again because I needed to sleep.
