Hey'all, missed ya last months cause I had shittall to say about Gracest-Galaxy, BUT I HAVE QUITE A BIT THIS TIME!
It's all on the progress page ofc, but one thing I wanna explain a bit more are future plans for the site. I said I was *considering* a redesign for the update, but pretty much right after writing it I started working on one, so that's exciting. Same with the sectioning off of the Kirby Mini Site into its own URL and all, I have the URL just gotta transfer all the stuff, which'll probably be done by April. Very excited about this stuff rn ^_^
LADIES AND GENTLEMAN SAY HELLO TO THE G-G CHARACTER GALLERY:
I have done it! The toy.houselite site section has been implemented! Is it any where near as full as I want it to be? No. But that's half the fun! Over the course of 2024 I hope to fill it with more of my silly blorbos and reveal more stuff about some of the projects I'm most passionate about ^_^. On top of that there is the yearly update of the Main Gallery, and small stuff on my About Me. You can read all about that on ye olde journal page.
Gather Round Ye Children, It's Time For the Monthly Site Update
This update feels more lowkey than the last ones cause it's more filling in gaps than doing and new programming magic, but it's pretty important what I got done!
In a way, finishing the Interest Hell essays has brought the site to proper initial completion, which really does just leave the promised Character Gallery as the final thing to get done. Still shooting of the New Year, but I'm just fighting against a bit of art burnout and all. There's also the plans for some sort of new article section I go over a bit :3, which is now also added to the New Year's promise.
Happy belated Halloween, the only thing spooky about my site are all the hidden folders I accidentally created cause I personally use .folder/filename for important things. Now they simply float around in the metadata of my Neocities.. empty and searching for the files they once held... oOoOoOo....
So anyways, all I did was expand my About Me section and tried to optimize my gallery.
It got webp'd and other images scattered across the site got a downsize for efficiency's sake. Even the background wallpapers though I hope it's not too obvious.
There's nothing new for Kirby, as I've been busy mostly with personal projects and having no energy, but someday. The giant history book is still sitting on my desk enticing me to write more headcanon about Halcandra.
Nothing huge, and I'm not promisin' anything for this month neither, but many fun plans are still on the back-burner. One of the things I've been neglecting the site to work on I'm planning on going over in depth eventually! I've been considering subscribing to Neocities mostly out of the charity of my heart, but because unlimited space, video support, and extra urls sounds like a good deal with some of the stuff I've got on the menu, heh heh...
Very very, proud of what I got done this month ^_^ I created a search function for my gallery from scratch in Javascript!
Apologies if the page loads even slower now, I tried optimizing it with loading = lazy on everything, and it works well enough on my end but god knows. This month I'll work on making it faster. The yearly pages are gone for now, but you can just search by year tags, and I'll probably bring them back in some capacity once I add annual reflections to them.
If you go to the first gallery landing page, along with a slowly rendering slideshow, you'll see a lil "Character Gallery" button... that's another thing that'll come later, and hopefully by about the end of the year. My motto with the site is if it's something I want out of the internet, I'll make it for myself - and something I've always wanted to create was a Toyhouse page. But why get an account there and deal with its mess when I can do that crap myself! What's funny is the main roadblock isn't even recreating the format, it's putting stuff in it which is why I never created one in the first place. But I am very inspired to make those assets while I'm trying to build something for myself like this.
If ya check my stuff out and notice any bugs or have any constructive criticism/tips n tricks/etc, feel free to comment on there or send an ask or somethin'.
Coming at you technically a day (30 minutes) late, but the site has been updated for September. At the last minute I got to learn about Neocitie's "secret folders" which means the whole gambit I did to folder-ize my site will have to be redone, but atleast it works. Well except Neocities always takes an hour to update the index page, so have it from the progress report. (Also under the cut).
9/3/23
It's been a hot minute, and other than some routine updates for the Kirby Lore page, there isn't much news on the site itself. There's still plenty in the works, like a second gallery structured like a toy.house, and I've even thought of maybe setting up an ask-box or comment like section. When those will come at the pace I'm on, who knows.
Even though I stopped streaming for a bit after my last announcement, I did pick back up and finished the first part of the Kirby Marathon. I got interrupted by a family vacation, but I'm planning on doing a quick bonus stream sometime this week, and then starting up again in October. The perfect time of the year for the infamously spooky Dark Matter Trilogy. I'm planning on uploading the full VODs of the streams, as well as edited down versions on my channel, which I'm aiming to formally revive by New Years (wish my procrastinating ass luck)!
In more personal news, I paused my Disney Marathon due to running out of notebook pages, but I took up something more interesting in the meantime. My biggest original project, Neonverse has been in need of a rewrite for a while, and I finally got back around to that sometime in July. It's been going very fun since then, and soon I'll have art and notes to share from it. I was even inspired to dive an inch deeper into JavaScript in an attempt to rough out a gameplay concept.
Neonverse also inspired me to revisit somethings from around the time in my life it's based on. Chiefly, Steven Universe, which has re-cemented itself as my favorite animated TV show, it is so fucking good! Reexamining the works that most inspired me around the time Neonverse is based on is officially on the docket for the experience of the rewrite now, and I think next is Undertale and/or Super Mario 3D World. I'll likely be playing them alone or with friends instead of on Twitch. But if you follow me on Tumblr, you'll probably see my opinions on such and such about it.
I think the most important thing about making my own website I’ve learned in the last month is that you can’t promote it on a “link post” because then the only attention it will get are porn bots.
I also spent a lot of time the last couple weeks relearning HTML and CSS from the ground up! And I basically just realized that my code was messy more than anything. Messy enough that I decided to just like reorganize everything from CSS to HTML tags, and then in the end the site looks exactly the same... Well, it can actually take the window being a different size now. That was always so ugly to me zod zamn.
Anyways, Go Look at my site! It looks exactly the same, but I’m proud of it!
There’s a new page for updates specifically now too!
