#gradient sweater

Gentlemen (genderneutral), it begins.

I dreaded starting the steeked gradient sweater. Because I have to swatch and decide on a pattern. But after gauge swatching and seeing/feeling the luxurious fabric I‘m so in love, I can‘t wait to knit this thing. Also, look at this hunk of yarn, it‘s so fun. The only problem are my non-existent 9mm circulars. So for now, I shall use the DPNs.

The plan is to let the gradient do most of the work, I want a bit of texture on the bottom, maybe through some cable. Also, the raglan shoulders are imperative, as well as a little teeny tiny turtle neck action.

Mauve, Bitch!

The increases on the sweater are done. That means the next step will be the steeking and also some kind of cable design is going to start fading in from here. I can't warm up to the circulars, and since there are not going a lot more additional stitches, I'm staying true to my DPNs, however crammed the needles may be. I've put the sweater up on some leftover yarn though, to see how it looks flat. What do we think? I've put it on and it actually has a nice fit. It's currently residing at nipple level, so I think that's good. Also all my calculations for converting the pattern(s) proved to be correct in the end. Yay. It's officially called the Mauve, Bitch Sweater.

Luckily, I found this little fella chilling there. He needs to be picked up. But otherwise no nasty surprises so far.

Aaaalrighty. The sweater is coming along nicely. But we‘re still in safe territory anyway. So far it’s just a regular raglan sweater. I knitted a little stand-up collar of just knit stitches that roll up until it‘s changed to alternating knit and purl stitches, that don‘t roll up.

Here you can see the raglan part with the yarn overs knitted like regular stitches in the non-increase rows to create these holes. I love that lacy look on chunky yarn. I just wish I had made the ridge between increases into a cable braid or something, but I don’t want to undo my progress at this point. The first time swatching in forever was an absolute lifesaver but a hassle with all the pattern converting. Kids, swatch your knitting, for fuck‘s sake.

We are reaching maximum DPN capacity and the circulars have not arrived yet. That means, we‘ll be needing to whip out the rubber bands soon, to keep the stitches from spilling over.

First try-on will follow as soon as the raglan increases are done!
