Listened to a couple of LPs
After a long day I wanted to wind down so I put on the old steam powered stereo. I dug up Emmylou Harris' quarter moon album. It was from 1975 and I bought it new. As I was not doing any silly comparisons or stuff I was just enjoying the music. That is what it is for after all. I had not listened to the whole album through in a while.
I may have fallen asleep as I do not recall hearing "one paper kid". Anyway I do recall the first track and the last track of side one. My old Shure V15 had a hell of a time tracking those two. It was supposed to be the best tracking cartridge you could get back in the day. Miss-tracking sounds like a weird noise and distortion that in its simplest form impresses you with congestion. In its worst its just nasty. The v15 was congested.
The Grado had no problems. Smooth as silk. This album has a couple of nerdish moments. On "leaving Louisiana" there is a splice in of a different vocal track. It is like they did not like the sound of the straight through run and fixed it. Musically it fits, but the character of the sound and atmosphere changes a lot.
Oh and I like the songs.
I then put on Cowboy Junkies Trinity Sessions.
Again I had not run the whole album through in a long time. It is part of the art aint it? This is still a remarkable album. Apparently the CJs are still preforming. All but one are siblings, so the group cannot just break up. Family dinners would be a mess. It was solid and enjoyable. I did not notice the AC vent rattling on track one. It contributes nothing to the music, but it is one of the nerd chestnuts. I may run the CD to see if it was the Grado or me being sleepy. I have heard it many times before on this system. Everything else was great. I have to clean side one better. There is bit of woosh noise on the lead in. The other sides are fine. (double album 180 gram).
Fine sound overall. That is the goal is it not?
My wife was out in the garden so I was allowed to "play the depressing music" I always seem to play.
