Google Calendar Student Time Capsules
Google Calendar Student Time Capsules
After seeing a Tweet by my PLN friend @PintoBeanz11 I was inspired with the idea of using a Google Calendar for a memory time capsule. I think it would be fun to smash Christine’s idea for capturing memories in Slides by attaching it to a Google Calendar Event with a notification scheduled for a Student’s Graduation month and year. This way when the graduation date comes around the student will…

A Sad Graduation Story
Once upon a time in a far away town of a poor country, there lived a family who never wanted but the best about their child. Farming as their main way of living, they spent every single cent for the education of their only son. Because the parents never had never finished grade school although they knew how to read and write basically, they wanted their son to finish school and grow up to become professional unlike them. For them, their son is their only hope to be able to get into the city.
Indeed, their son finished elementary school located in their area. When he was about to step high school, he was to travel a hundred miles and rent a boarding house for him to stay until he can finish high school. At first, he never failed to write letters every week to his parents. His parents on the other hand, were very happy everytime they received letters from their beloved son. His letters had talked about the new surroundings, new friends, new places, and modern technologies. With those writings, the parents can help but cry for happiness and wish that someday they can reach the city when their son's graduation day will come. The first year went smoothly. The parents and the son continued writing letters.
On the second year and thereafter, the son hardly writes anymore. He would only write if he needs money. The parents who are unaware of what their son is doing, still keeps on sending him money. What they had in mind is that their son is studying so hard that's why he's always busy and that he seldom sends them letters. Sometimes, the father would like to go his son's school and check up on him. But the parents were reluctant to do so because it would cost a lot of money and they would rather spend it or their son's needs, as they say.
It was successive that the son asked for money. It was stated in his letters that he has lots of science projects to be done, books to be purchased and field trips to be participated. The parents never had a sign that their son is not telling the truth, that he is already making it all up.
Here was the response letter from the parents:
Dear Son,
How are you? I hope you are in good health. By the way, we are sending you again money for you school needs. I hope will buy the book that you badly needed. What was that called again, FACEBOOK? When will be your field trip to LAS VEGAS? Do not forget to bring the goodies needed and medicine too so that you won't catch a cold. Anyway, how was your science project? Were you able to light now your LIGHT BEER? I hope it will be positive so you can get your MEDAL OF HONOR, as you said.
Good luck Son. We are looking forward to go there for your graduation.
Mother and Father
With the parent's letter, can you say that their son will be able to graduate?
Of course not. He's been squandering his parents money and forgot what was his real goal in life. Do you want to know where he is now? He's in prison. And you will be the one to think of the reasons why.
I pity the parents. It' a sad story.
