Hey gals how was that past tence, he said in church scene that he never came bsck after that night because of what it would do to everyone i dont understand what he meant when he told demlelza he came to realise after that night she was the one, lucky demelza, aye,i suppose it must mean he didnt go to her because he was not sure who he wanted for deffo at that time ,
Hi nonny – @poldarkmmmuses here. Hope this helps a bit:
PRESENT TENSE: Just once in the TV adaptation I would like to hear Ross tell Elizabeth that he loves Demelza and that’s why he can’t be with Elizabeth.
PAST TENSE: Just once in the TV adaptation I would like to hear Ross tell Elizabeth that he loves Demelza and that’s why he couldn’t have been with Elizabeth.
As for the rest of it, earlier today, a friend of mine actually summed it up – at least for me – pretty well: Ross never had to ‘realize he loved Demelza’. He always KNEW he loved Demelza. 'It’s not a question of wanting you, it’s a question of not wanting her’. He might have been less in love with her at that point, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t LOVE her.
WHY this happened? Would require a lot of work to explain it. Might try to say a thing or two about it on the podcast.
