The fact that they do not understand what Ward has been through. Of course, who wouldn't feel betrayed with what he did. We all felt that because we've been with S.H.I.E.L.D’s journey to each episode that they fight for Hydra (unless you are Team Hydra.) To be honest I felt betrayed when Ward killed agents, dropping Fitzsimmons on the plane, and deceiving everyone but I partially do not blame him to be the person he is when he betrayed S.H.I.E.L.D.
Garrett was there. He was the one who pulled him in his turmoil. The one who brought him to S.H.I.E.L.D. He looks up to him like a student and a mentor.
