A, your Thanksgiving posts are so inspiring to me; I'm not vegetarian but meat and I are reevaluating our relationship and you keep inspiring me to find tasty alternatives, and also reminding me Thanksgiving exists and I should probably start planning for it; B, do you have a particular garlic Brussels sprouts recipe/method you like?

Ahh, I'm so glad you're looking into alternatives! I don't think people should give up meat entirely if they don't want to, but things like meatless Mondays and picking the veg option on the menu instead of the meat one are great ways of a) introducing more variety and greens into one's life, and b) help in some small way! If you ever want recipes to try, let me know!

As for the Brussel sprouts!!! So I make them at home all the time, and have alternated between roasting them in an air fryer/in the oven, as well as frying them. I prefer roasting them as I like that kinda crispy char on the outer leaves, but if you don't have use of an oven frying them slowly over a medium-low heat will also get that nice brown and crisp.

Basically, get a bunch of Brussel sprouts, wash them, peel the outer leaves,cut off the base, and halve them. Then you get a pan and coat them with olive oil, kosher salt (I like to use the big grain salt because it's easier to gauge how much salt I'm using), pepper, and chop up a bunch of garlic (use your discretion, but I tend to go with four or five cloves). Toss it all together and lay it out over the pan.

If you're roasting them, preheat the oven to 425F. Once it's heated, slide the sprouts in and cook for about ten to fifteen minutes. Open up the oven, and give them a good mix before roasting them for another ten to fifteen, or until the flat sides have gotten a nice brown char and the outside is almost black (but not burnt).

If you're frying them, place them face down on the pan with some extra oil coating the base of the pan. Turn on the heat and cook them at a medium-low setting. Don't touch them too much - you want the flat sides to get nice and browned. If the oil dissipates, add a bit more (or some globs of butter if you're feeling extra rich). Once the flat sides are fried, I just start mixing them around and let them cook for another few minutes, or until the other sides are cooked.

2 ⧽. if you could sit down and finish any completely new fic without anything stopping you (time, tiredness, etc), what would you write? tell us about it if you want!

okay, i'll interpret completely new as not a second chapter of something and not as new work in an existing series. because this question made me think of obikin physio AU immediately. does that count as new even though i've talked about it a bunch before?

if there was nothing stopping me, not even my own brain, then i'd wanna write this one. i realised a few weeks ago that the original idea kind of got away from me already, because originally i talked specifically about touch-starved Obi-wan falling for his physiotherapist Anakin because he's essentially the only person touching him in any way. but it kind of went from there to literally just plain attraction, but god if i don't fuck with everything i've said about it so far still. i got a whole slew of plot outline written for it, i got all my silly posts about it, i think about it at least once a week, and yet, i can't fucking write it. it's cursed. i'm gonna sell it to the highest bidder (/hj)

in case this doesn't count, i also have two other ideas on the back burner, which technically means they also aren't new new, but new in the sense that i've never mentioned them anywhere before. one of them features actor!Obi-Wan starring in a Kenobi-series type TV show or movie, with Luke and Leia playing the respective kid parts. Anakin, being their dad and all, tends to be on set sometimes and they slowly fall in love because of the kids - Obi-Wan is very sweet to them and treats them so well, it's enamoring Anakin entirely. (and yk, he's a bit of a fan). Obi-Wan on the other hand can't help but be charmed with Anakin's parenting skills, his willingness to let his kids explore their interest in acting without making them the main source of income like he's seen other parents do, and his kindness to everyone on set. i never got very far planning this, but i found the idea soo cute and i'd read a fic like this in a heartbeat

9. start to finish, how long did it take you to write the last fic you posted?

Hmm this would be for finished fics rather than one of my eternal WIPs I suppose 🤔 In which case I'm discussing civic duty, which I half wrote in September and finished off in December, so about three months. But I did write and post two other fics in that time and worked on a couple others!

10. what is the longest amount of time you’ve let a draft rest before you finished it?

What percent of the fic has to be written for it to count as a draft I wonder? My guess would be my baseball fic The Bottom of the Ninth because I wrote three or four scenes for it in like August of 2021. And then I came back and finished it (aka wrote like 35k more words) in the summer of 2023.

If the fic has to be mostly finished? A week, maybe, unless I'm allowed to count my zine fic since that went to another person for editing which is not part of my usual process (as my wanton comma abuse would suggest). I tend to knuckle down if i'm close and then fling whatever the results are onto ao3 and hope for the best. I try to come back later to fix the errors but I will be the first to admit this is not the most efficient use of my time!

definitely the last one. there might have been a small handful of exceptions but I usually fill out every ao3 field and then whine about titles to my friends live on discord lol

specifically for you, i went and looked for an otter-wan snippet i haven't shared yet 🥰 (it's getting harder though lmao)

For a little while, he dozes while Anakin’s emotions ebb and flow around Obi-Wan with the progression of the drama episodes. After some time though, his arm starts going numb and his neck starts hurting, so he pries his eyes open to sit up sleepily, behind Anakin’s legs with his own thrown over them so they dangle in the air. Anakin turns, otter plush tucked under his chin, and frowns. “You didn’t even really sleep.” Obi-Wan yawns and pats his leg. “I’ll go to bed early tonight; it’s alright.” “You need to take better care of yourself,” Anakin complains, sitting up as well. “My therapist said-“ “What your therapist says counts for you, Padawan-mine,” Obi-Wan chuckles, and Anakin scowls. “They’d say that to every patient, so it counts for you too,” he argues. “I’m getting more sleep than I used to,” Obi-Wan argues back. “I’ll just make some tea and take it slow today.” Anakin sighs. “You sit,” he says, handing his otter off to Obi-Wan, “I’ll make tea.” Obediently, Obi-Wan stays put while Anakin hauls himself off the sofa and he grins at the sight of his cloak being too short on his partner. While Anakin rummages through the cupboard, no doubt to look for the perfect cup – whatever that means – Obi-Wan situates the plush on his lap, smoothing down its synth-fur until it’s neat and tidy. It really is a very soft animal. Probably softer than he’d been as an otter, though Anakin keeps arguing that’s not true whenever he muses about it.

i miss otter-wan man :(

Anakin actually has a stockpile of fake braids that he gave out to people when he was knighted, and all are under the assumption that they're the only one to be bestowed with such an honour. No one knows who has the real one, not even Anakin at this point.

'Stubborn,' for the WIP game?

hii! you'd think that with obikin i'd use this word a lot but the closest i've come is stubbornness in one singular obikin wip lmao

Some time ago, Anakin would’ve never imagined setting aside his stubbornness and refusal to try new things, but things he doesn’t enjoy become acceptable when Obi-Wan is around and even turn fun when his partner is having a great time.

this is from the current obi-wan beard-appreciation wip that i've been stuck on for 2 months and it's really just oozing with Anakin's all-encompassing love which is really just an excuse for me to a) wax poetry about Obi-Wan and b) experience emotions without consequences. anyway.

i did immediately find stubborn in the second most recent wip for my other fandom though lmao
