This is easily my favorite panel of him. No contest.
Where the fuck did the name Qifrey come from. Did he name himself that? Did Beldaruit have a book of baby names and was like "you know it's kinda fun you get to pick one!" while trying not to show how crushingly depressing it is that his boy doesn't even have a name to call his own.
I love Beldaruit for a million reasons but I love his understanding of Qifrey and Olruggio the most. He knows damn well Qifrey's chance of survival triples as long as Olruggio is around so he just does his best to make sure the two of them are together as much as possible lmao. Assigning Olruggio to Qifrey's atelier was so fuckin corrupt but I know for fact he was hoping to extend Qifrey's lifespan by doing so
I bet at least once, Qifrey has wiped Olruggio's memory just for Olruggio to wake up and immediately be suspicious and figure out something was up again so Qifrey had to do it twice in a row.
Remember when Olruggio implied that he couldn't take on an apprentice bc if it came between choosing them and Qifrey, he knows he's going to prioritize Qifrey and he doesn't want to put any kid through that.
That's insane. They're insane.
Headcanon that a miserable quiet part of Qifrey gets a sick kind of relief when Olruggio is angry with him because he feels he deserves that far more than he deserves Olruggio's kindness. The kindness and forgiveness always wins-- it's what he desires most, but it's also its own form of torture to someone like him. Any conflict between them makes him miserable, but he feels he's getting what's only fair, and that feeds some black hole sized void inside of him.
Mm. Well. Considering Qifrey, this line is fucking ominous.
