@bgs-cave-o-thots​ submitted: It's been a bit but I have an update on our white-lined sphinx caterpillar Long. They did manage to become a moth! Unfortunately though their wings didn't unfold correctly, and they could not fly. Here's pictures of them in the cocoon and as a moth:

It's kinda sad that the wings never unfurled, but we did everything we were supposed to so I suppose that just happens sometimes.

Aw, sorry to hear their wings didn’t dry correcty! It’s possible they were not kept moist enough while in the dirt, which can cause wing deformities, or they weren’t able to crawl up onto something immediately to hang while their wings were drying after they emerged. Or yes, sometimes they just don’t form right in the pupa or they don’t get out of the pupa fast enough or are injured on the way out and there’s nothing to be done. Luckily they’re still able to eat and crawl, so it’s not a total loss! Especially if it’s a female, they may still be able to mate and produce eggs as well. Anyhoo LOVE the grasshopper trinket box!
