scott’s heart pounded as kenzie kissed him, her lips soft but insistent, pulling him deeper into the moment. his hands slid around her waist, feeling the warmth of her body against his, the subtle way she leaned into him. his pulse raced; it always did when she was this close. he could feel the heat between them building, a tension that seemed to draw them together like a magnet.
but then, he felt her hands move. the brush of her fingers against the hem of her shirt, a quick tug upward that sent a surge of heat through his veins. he froze for a second, wanting it—wanting her—but something inside him pushed back against the urgency.
his hand moved, catching hers gently but firmly, stilling her. he broke the kiss, breathless, his forehead resting against hers. his heart was pounding in his chest, louder than the words in his head, but he couldn’t let it go this fast. not yet.
“wait,” he whispered, his voice rougher than he’d intended. he took a deep breath, trying to slow everything down, trying to clear his head from the haze of her touch. his thumb brushed her hand, a small gesture to show he wasn’t pulling away, just holding back.
“i just… i want to take this slow.” his voice was quieter now, almost unsure, but he meant it. he wanted this, but not like this, not all at once. not when he could barely think straight with her so close.
scott kept his eyes closed for a moment longer, steadying himself, feeling the weight of the decision. he wasn’t ready to rush, even though every fiber of him ached to. slowly, he opened his eyes, meeting hers, hoping she’d understand. hoping that, for now, holding her close was enough.
