He doesn’t know what he expected when signing up for chariot racing. But upon seeing the decorated carts lined up within the castle’s backstage, it almost feels like something pulled straight out of a historical movie set. There are even costumes available for wear, and a charge of excitement rumbles through the air.
It’s difficult not to be amazed at the dedication and grand scale of the event.
Heine circles around the chariot marked #38, the same number listed in burnished gold on his ticket, and comes to face with a woman around the front side. Oh, great. He makes a face of disgust before schooling his features into neutrality upon stepping closer.
“Hey,” he starts in a mild greeting to get her attention. “If you’re here, then I guess that makes you my partner...?” Unless she’s the type to check the competition or cheat by making unnecessary ‘adjustments’ to their rides. Heine lowers his brow. Hopefully, that isn’t the case here.
