Holiday Flash Fic Challenge: Day 9
Pairing: Gray Haddock x Reader
Prompt: “I know we were having a Christmas light fight but I blew my power and it’s cold and the electrician can’t come until tomorrow. Can I stay at your place?”
“Oh, he didn’t,” you glared at your neighbor's yard seeing his latest addition of a giant light up pole with directions to Santa’s workshop and the Reindeer stable right in the middle of his yard.
“That’s it,” you mumbled to yourself storming inside. You marched right up to your attic, leaving your jacket on because you knew you’d be out in the yard again in a minute. You shoved boxes around until you found the supply of tangled lights you had tried to avoid this year. You knew you had to beat Gray so anything you could use would be.
You dragged the box outside and sat down, getting to work.
A few hours later and it was nearly midnight, you had gotten your house to shine far brighter than Gray’s. You probably could have quit an hour ago but you still had one more strand to go.
“Almost done,” you said picking up the plug and you stuck it in the free outlet.
You jumped as sparks showered your front porch and your heart sank as you saw the power go out in your house.
“No! No! No!” you rushed to your power box, hitting a few switches but it was useless. You called around for an electrician but no one could come until morning. You sighed and went inside but you were quick to pick up on that you forgot to turn the heat one once you had gotten home.
Your head hung as you knew you were in for an unpleasant night. That was until you saw light from your window. You walked over, pulling back a curtain and saw Gray moving around his kitchen. At least it was only your house that had been affected. You bit your lip and walked back outside.
You made your way to Gray’s front door, biting your lip as you began to rethink what you were about to ask.
“Hey, it’s me! You’re neighbor. I know we’ve been fighting over who has the better Christmas display and well I may have overdone it and blown the power to my house and all the electricians are busy until morning so could I like stay the night? No that’s dumb,” you muttered.
The door suddenly swung open, causing you to jump.
“Not dumb. Well, a little dumb but you are more than welcome to stay here until morning,” Gray told you.
Your cheeks turned rosy with a blush as you just realized he had heard your speech through the door. You thanked him though and rushed inside to the warmth.
Gray led you into his kitchen. He had you take a seat as he fixed you a warm cup of cocoa. He offered you food but you turned him down, you had already been imposing enough.
As he sat down, sliding you a mug he gave you a warm smile.
You took a sip, recognizing something in the drink,. “Cinnamon?” you questioned.
“Fireball. Hopefully, you still like that. I remember you mentioning that you liked cinnamon whiskey in your hot chocolate one time,” he looked worried.
You sat back and took another sip before shaking your head. You couldn’t believe he remembered that, “I love it. I just- you remember that?”
He laughed and nodded, “I remember a lot of things you say including how much you love Christmas.” You gave him a curious look but let him go on, “Which is why I was trying to impress you so hard with my lights this year. Not compete. Sorry about that. I just wanted you to like them.”
Your jaw dropped a little but then it curled into a smile and you reached across the table, placing one of your hands on his, “Second best lights display I’ve ever seen. First being mine.”
Gray laughed and turned his hand so he could hold yours as the two of you started to talk well into the night.
