fellas, is it gauche to be excited as hell about one's own recently-published fic? wait, i don't care; this is my blog so here's some lore

part 6 (final part!)

Honestly, I cried while writing Spock in his meditation room thinking about Saavik. Then I went "Ah, shit, I should call my dad, huh?" That call resulted in my dad just casually telling me that he has a copy of the TMP novelization. That copy now sits on my bookshelf. Happy Pride to me.

Because I am choosy about what I keep from the movies, I keep Saavik and not David. GirlDad!Kirk and GirlDad!Spock are canon to me. David is so clearly an insertion of 80's-era masculinity that my Jim Kirk does not need. In the immortal words of Chris Fleming: "I'm having daughters. No sons, okay? Sons are gross. Every time I see a guy with his son I'm just like, 'Ew, what are you guys, an improv group?'"

"But Jim and Spock are so bad with kids," I hear people cry, and… sigh Being "good with kids" is a skill set that anyone of any gender can learn. Asserting that it is innate to particular people, more often than not, serves to benefit patriarchy. Also, the textual evidence of Spock being "bad with kids" is in his interactions with presumably-neurotypical human children for whom he is not responsible. If, however, that child is Vulcan, autistic, and/or in need of his care? Spock is going to approach parenthood like a scientist and execute that task with his signature competence. Jim, meanwhile, does not gravitate toward fatherhood, but motherhood? Absolutely. That rule-following nerd is so darn proud of his regulation-quoting daughter Mr. Saavik.

I don't know yet what T'Saan ends up majoring in, because she doesn't yet know either. But she will be coming back, I promise. I am too attached to her not to explore her story more.

I sent the published fic to one friend who replied "AAWWW YEAHHH LIMP DICK TIME." Previously unsaid sentences in human history.

I love that there's an established tag/tradition in this fandom of Old Married Spirk! And, I want there to be more exploration of what "old" physically means, including with regards to sex. There are, last time I counted, fewer than 10 fics in the Kirk/Spock tag that specifically tag "erectile dysfunction," "flaccid" or "soft" cock, etc. Those that specifically discuss erectile dysfunction tend to regard it as a temporary state or a problem to solve, and it generally is solved by the end. I don't think I've yet seen it as Jim's dick being the one not getting hard (though please correct me if I'm wrong!).

I also want more M/M fic that de-emphasizes penetrative sex as the end goal or the Main Way To Have Sex. There are so many ways to give and receive pleasure! And those would naturally become more important to explore as aging bodies lose the ability to achieve physiological arousal - distinct from psychological arousal, which is how/why Jim's Very Into It but still soft. Spock's infodump about non-penetrative sex options, by the way, could have gone on A Lot Longer; he was just getting warmed up. (This is one of my traits that I gave to Spock.)

I was not planning on having Jim and Spock flirt in the middle of sex. It just happened. Literally whenever I write anything they're doing, oops, they start flirting. I did plan on having Spock do the Vulcan calligraphy trick with his hips because you cannot tell me that would not be hot. You also cannot tell me that Jim does not stare at Spock's ass every chance he gets.

The "reason not the need" line to excuse Little Treats comes from my own mother, and I carry on that tradition proudly.
