I get it. I've read the books more than twenty times through. I was on theoryland. I was on dragonmount. I was am on tarvalon.net. I was on the grey-tower rp site. I was on irc with multiple registered wot usernames. I've gone to RL wot parties to meet wot fans I'd only hung out with online. I'm such a fucking wot nerd that I've visited wot fans on three continents to hang out with them in person. I have a Badali officially licensed Aes Sedai ring I wear most days, and I have had multiple Aes Sedai shawls. I've written wiki pages and articles for online WoT newspapers. I've literally taught WoT classes. I put the fanatic back in fan!

The show is different. the show has problems. the show has idiosyncracies and fuck-ups.

just. like. THE BOOKS!

fuck, I love it. I'm having such a good time loving it. I can love it and have criticisms. All I've done for over 15 yrs is lovingly critique the books! Why would the show be any different!

We are so lucky. Our showrunners love the source material! We don't see headlines like the Witcher, where the writers and directors literally hated the source material. We have real, handmade costumes and handmade sets like the much-lauded LotR movies, and unlike the much-maligned Rings of Power.

It's so much fun loving WoT. It's so delightful having theorizing back!! I get to make crackpot theories about the Wheel of Time again! how cool is that?! is the show perfect? Certainly not! but we're WoT fans! Since when have we needed perfection??

It's completely fascinating how Robert Jordan very literally made power addictive in WoT. The way touching the source brings euphoria, the sense of loss and sorrow when releasing it. The longing when you're cut off from it. The way men must wrestle with the longing versus fearing corruption.

Various character grapple with physical power, too. Nyneave gives up her status and power (Wisdom of the Two Rivers) to be an Accepted, but once she gains the status of Aes Sedai, she sets about dismantling the power structure that puts her at the top of the Aes Sedai hierarchy.

Rand grapples with people/prophecy/circumstances handing him power he has never been trained to wield, and whenever he delegates that power, he inevitably has to step back in and deal with the corruption that arose in his absence, while also having to deal with the corruption of saidin.

Elayne is like, if someone from a society without electricity finds an electric chair and generator. So she studies to discover how to harness this power. Once she thinks she understands she needs to find out if her conclusions are correct. So she builds duplicates of the electric chair and generator and — this part is key for Elayne's Elayneness — she tests them.

She tests them on her friends she convinces to help her out. at non-lethal levels, yes. and she only runs tests at more dangerous levels on the immortal servant of satan one of her friends is in a full-time kinky master/sub relationship with.

What's the verdict, Unreasonably Attractive fandom?

I expect this to be an extremely controversial opinion, but [end series Perrin spoilers ahead]

imho it would be a solid choice to kill Perrin mid-Last Battle. He never faces real consequences for his refusal to accept things about himself and his role in the end of the 3rd Age, and it would be thematically interesting. Rand 'dies' and lives incognito in Moridin's body. Mat's dreams die and he faces the task of a lifetime in changing Seanchan society with his channeler-potential-having wife. Perrin refuses to face his destiny and dies for it.

And in that vein, I really REALLY hope they choose not to kill off Egwene.

Elayne having that QEII, precise English aristocratic accent was such a perfect choice! And her bearing! Indicating where to put the cushions with a glance, a genuine crinkle of the eyes, the utterly self-possessed confidence of the gracious thank-you, taking the service as her due.

And then immediately pivoting upon realizing this is her Novice wall-mate! The Cadsuane to her Elena, the other half of her future legend. Coincidence, yes, but Elayne and her homemade distillery under her bed can convince this tax dodger Tower-assigned bestie to be as legendary as Elayne has every reason to believe Elayne herself will be!
