The Necklace
@frappsundies part 3 to Taken For Granted I guess. Sorry that it’s really short, it’s past midnight here and I’m really tired.

“Hey.”
Harold turned around when he heard Mr. Meaner’s voice.
“What do you want?” he asked the adult in a sort of sour tone. He wasn’t trying to be rude, but lack of sleep due to staying up too late didn’t exactly help. That and he still disliked the fact that he was dating his mom.
Meaner didn’t comment on it, however. He just simply held out his hand.
“Your mom wanted me to give this to you. She said she thought you might like it.” he said.
Harold looked at the object in the gym teacher’s hand.
It was a necklace. A silver chain with half a heart hanging from it. The heart half was blue with the words ‘Big Brother’ written on it in darker blue.
Harold took it and held it in his own hands. The shiny chain reflected the light from the fluorescents in the ceiling and he discovered a small magnet on the side of the heart half where the other half would fit.
That thought formed a question in Harold’s mind. “Where’s the other half?” he asked, still studying the accessory.
“Do I really need to tell you?” Meaner answered. He sounded sad.
Harold then looked at the words ‘Big Brother’ again and it clicked.
His expression became sad as guilt began to rise up.
He didn’t cry, though. He had no tears left.
“Thanks.” he said softly before leaving.
He went into the nearest bathroom, put it on, and looked at himself in the mirror.
Then he began to rub the heart half with his pointer fingers and thumbs.
It felt relaxing to do that. In a sense, it felt like Heidi was there, telling him that everything was ok.
He didn’t want that feeling to go away.
He would never take this necklace off even if the world was ending.
He would protect it like it was her.
And if anyone tried to take it from him...
...he’d make them beg for mercy.
